What are the Odds?

I have been quite for the past week without going on the forum (on purpose) because i had to get over why this would happen. My wife brought our brand new SS to work Last Monday for the first time. Car has less than 400 miles on it (only because i drove it down from Md) parked the car as usual, no problem.About an Hour goes by and some guy walks into her office and asks who owns the white malibu... anyway.. my wife freaks out and calls me crying to tell me what happened. This guy left his truck in drive while getting out of his truck, the truck starts it forward coast across 2 lanes of traffic,a bike path and a jogging path before going into my wives parking lot and jacking up our brand new SS. Yup,this guy gets out of a running truck , in drive, what are the freaking odds?? Yes, i`m glad no one was injured and i thank god for that, but our car looks like crap now and the body shop is backed up for almost 2 months. Of course the guys truck suffered no damage and on his merry way with a traffic infraction. Now dealing with insurance, adjusters, body shops, and all this time for minding our own business. I also know how much it takes to study, research, price, and find "The Car" since about a year ago. Anyway i finally stopped crying like a little girl and wanted to share. :shithappens:

Oh, forgot to mention if the truck just went a hair to the left after coming down the road..

A "bad nightmare coming true" is a hit-and-run, of which my old Subaru is pockmarked and damaged by many of those.

OP got hit, and fortunately it was by a very responsible and moral man willing to put his ass down on the line and seek out the person he wronged. That kind of man is in as much of a short-supply as he's ever been throughout history.

OP is lucky. Unwitnessed hits and runs are the norm. You got a guy coming to you willing to make things right.

Be reasonable. Don't make him regret this decision and/or choose to dip out and vanish if it ever happens again. I've been that guy, and I've copped to everything from door dings to a tiny dented license plate frame that ended up costing me 800 dollars (bless the dude in the ****box that only wanted me to pay half that) because his car was a 10-year-old POS.

Dude stepped up and did a responsible adult thing in his error. Put his feet to the coals like our litigious, entitled society dictates, and you'll ensure that he never makes that same mistake again. :storm:

Not getting a bumper, they said they could fix it, not sure about that.

I know I lack empathy, but you can't change what happened, so you have to accept it and process a suitable solution. The way I see it, it's the best case in terms of damage as it appears to be concentrated to the rear fascia (and maybe some metal on the back side). If it were me, between now and getting the fascia replaced/fixed, I'd pop that "dent" out and clean up any scuffs as best I could.

Its his insurance, correct? (Some states have different laws)
If so, be a pain in the ass and insist on what you want. Maybe they can fix but get an honest answer from the body shop on what they think is the best way to fix it and make the insurance company fix it that way.
Threaten them with a diminished value claim.
If its their insured's fault for being a dumbass, you should be made right.

Settle for nothing less! No fixing anything but the every minor. New bumper is a given (fix it, please...omg).

I have never heard of anything like that. That had some divine influence for whatever reason.

I did not mention that the bumper is jammed up against the trunk lid and the parking sensor is bad now, comes up on the display.

Yes, believe or not, we both have the same insurance company. The officer who wrote the ticket stated that if i was not happy with the outcome i could go back to the owner of the truck for further damage, according to the ticket he got.

Sorry about that bad luck! At least he had the decency to come forward about it. I had someone back in to my car when I had first bought the car, but I will never know who did it because they drove off...

sorry to hear this. I had a damaged bumper before I even received the car so I know the feeling. hopefully its only isolated to the plastic absorption bits.

At least it appears to be mostly cosmetic with maybe no structural damage.
Still, though.....:frown:
Sorry!

man that sucks. It's good the damage is as limited as it is, could have been much worse.

I used to have a F250 4x4 and my wife accidentally drove over front end a Nissan Sentra totaling the Sentra.

Darn Dodge. If he'd been in a Chevy or GMC it wouldn't have happened--every 2007 and newer GMT900 and K2xx I've been in, the door won't unlock until you put it in park.
I'm sorry about your crappy luck--I hope you're made completely whole, and SOON.

make sure you file of the loss on vehicle's value due to the accident record on the car, if you have that option

This is something my friend told me about, and a lot of people overlook that

So sorry this happened =(

On a super-side note, your area's police cars are pretty cool. Is "OBX", NC short for something?

// Nevermind, it's Nags Head Police, NC.

Bumper cover has to come off to inspect what is damaged if anything behind it. The trunk floor and spare well seam needs to be checked.

It was a corner hit by a big heavy but slow moving truck; It needs to be checked to see if the unibody tweaked.

Most insurance companies will attempt to fix only the visual cosmetic aspect on slow speed impacts unless pressed.
