Just Renewed Our XM Package.

Just renewed our XM package as our trial ends on Nov 27.
I got the all access package (which is supposed to include traffic, weather...etc) for $119 for 1 year plus tax. I could have gotten it for $49 plus tax for 6 months.
Of course you have to agree that if you don't cancel it is OK for them to renew you at full price (about $240 plus tax). That is why I was willing to pay $20 extra for the 12 month subscription. Less hassle.
Anyway I thought some of you might be interested...

Update: XM all access does not include everything we get on our trial! I specifically asked if it included everything. I found this out when I looked it up online. I called XM this morning and pitched at fit! Threatened to cancel everything.
Result - They threw in "Travel Link" for free for 1 year.

I like the XM classic rock stations when XM works. Not sure if I'll renew or not as I can always grab the MP3 or a USB stick with real music on it.

After my parking garage fun several weeks ago I now turn off the radio before I pull into our garage or any covered parking structure. This has worked fine till Friday night. Pulled out of garage into driveway, turned on radio........... NOTHING. XM had gotten lost/confused again. Had to shut the SS off and wait for all the electrical timeouts before restarting and then XM worked.

I've found over the last six years that if you wait until you get your renewal notice and then call and tell them you want to cancel they will transfer you to a 'retention' speciality who will then be able to offer you a one year plan for $89. I've done this every year for the six years we've owned our van.

I couldn't live without satellite radio. Especially if you go on road trips! I got into a habit of muting the radio on certain stretches of road by my house because the trees cause disturbance. I spoke to someone that used to work for Sirius and apparently the buffering time on Sirius was longer than on XM hence the interference. I remember having a radio from best buy that clipped on to the windshield and I never had so much disturbance as I have now. Either way I would rather have satellite than listen to commercials :)

Isn't the Navigation System through MyLink and not XM Radio or did i miss something?

I'm done with XM. Been a subscriber for over 10 years but I'm just tired of it. I canceled my subscription on all my cars right before I picked up the SS. Not going back. When it ends I'll just stream from one of the many music providers or listen to pod casts.

if I do not renew XM will the map feature / GPS not work? And I read something about the key fob door locking and remote start features are provided only for 5 years. Do they require an XM renewal to work longer than that?

Remote start, horn, & lock/unlock are OnStar features. They will work for 5 years without an OnStar subscription using the OnStar phone app, but only 5 unless you then subscribe.

No connection to XM or to the key fob which will work as long as it has a battery in it or until the circuitry fails. Batteries are replaceable. Info is in the OM.

Congratulations to those of you that have had success renewing your XM radio service. I am one of the unfortunate ones. In four phone calls with four different customer reps over a two week period I was offered nothing more than the same promotion that came in the mail. One rep admitted that they have no ability or authority to cut the price or to offer anything more than what a subscriber can get by logging into their website. One rep suggested that I enroll in the $29.95 six month package and then call back in six months to threaten to cancel unless they would enroll me in a new six month promotional package and then do this again and again every six months. I am not going to do that. XM is not worth that to me.

I asked all for reps for a 5 year package for $500 paid up front. "Our computer does not have that selection sir". I asked for their longest package that has all the features that came in the free trial. "That would be a 3 year package that nobody buys. It costs $786 plus fees and taxes". No surprise that nobody buys it! I asked for a price that would limit me to six music channels and full feature GPS. "I'm sorry, we can't offer you that, but we get asked for that several times per day". Boy is this company missing the boat! Prospective customers regularly tell them what they want to buy to be happy. Long term contracts paid in full up front - no refund if I sell my car or cancel; ala carte pricing; renewals at an agreed price instead of a nebulous "at current price levels" - yet they ignore the customers and expect you to play their games. Nope, not me. I have a Garmin with lifetime map updates and I can buy 610 new songs on iTunes over the next three years and still have spent less then their ridiculous XM rates. I like the service and its a shame to have a nice infotainment system pretty much wasted but come on, really? The promo doesn't get you everything that was in the free trial as some of you already learned.

Sorry for the long rant. It just frosts me that the Sirius XM company acts so stupidly. People are telling them how to grow their customer base and make lots of money and they ignore us.

I've not read all the comments in this post but will add my 2 cents. Never ever give sirusxm or Onstar your credit card # they will auto renew at higher rate. I had SirusXm and wanted to cancel that was a nightmare in the making finally got it canceled. I like it I have a price point I will pay for two cars same goes for Onstar. The experience with SirusXm left a bad taste in wifes mouth and she will go off on anyone calling my house.
So just be fore warned.

Just renewed mine (Trial ends 3/1)... got a decent rate of $119 for the All Access package for a year... even upgraded my wife's select plan to the all access as well. They also offered $49 for 6 months, but I wanted to just do a year at a time. I asked if she can do a longer term with the same % discount (rather just do 3 years) but she said they can't. Lame.

Works poorly in my area, static, cuts in and out, underpasses, hills, trees, buildings, you name it. Too annoying. Pandora never misses a beat and at $4.99 a month, it always plays what I want, including making your own stations. Just got the renewal in today's mail, I'll pass.
