Unintentionally opening the trunk with the keyless entry

I was playing pool in a small bar last night with the key in my pocket. The car was about 50 to 100 feet from the bar. When I came out my trunk was open (with a few things inside). I know you need to hold the trunk button for a short while for it open. It must have happen when leaning against the pool table. Curious if something like this has happened to others. Lesson obviously is to be careful with the key when the car is close by.

Yes, has happened to me. I didn't want to return to the car with a trunk full of snow or rain, so I removed 1 of the 2 trunk lid assist springs, so the trunk doesn't open itself fully when unlocked via the remote or the button on the drivers door. Now when I pop the trunk it unlocks, but has to be manually raised.

Happens to me regularly and I did the same thing removing one spring. Mine usually happens in the driveway, don't know if it releases when the kids or dog are climbing on me or what but it happens too often, probably as often as the useless key opening, key is easier to fix though.

I like fobs with the buttons a bit more recessed. Yesterday I was helping a friend do brakes on his wife's 95 Caprice and managed to trigger the lock button on the FOB twice and honk the horn on my car.

Do we have FOB options that would solve this?

Happened to me once too while I was at work. I Must have bumped it when I was on the side of the building relativly close to where I park.

If there was some kind of key holder pouch it might help prevent this.

There was a software update to resolve this problem, but I don't remember if it was for the SS or the Camaro. What the update did was make the button press to trunk open time from like 1sec to 3sec. Something of that nature...

Happens to me all the time. Came out from the grocery store and found my trunk lid completely open.

It needs shields like Michael Keaton Era Batmobile. Or just a simple lock switch that disables the buttons.

While that's a great idea, I hate disabling one feature to overcome another. I'm looking at options to build up a bead around the switch to reduce the chance of unintended activation of the button.

Very annoying issue. It has happened to me several times. My car is parked outside, so having the trunk open is a real problem. One time it opened and stayed open all night during a strong thunderstorm. The only thing that saved me was the WeatherTech trunk liner. All of the water stayed in the liner. Of course everything in the trunk was soaked.... I normally carry two other key chains in my pocket that has the SS key fob. The trunk must be coming open when I move around. I suppose I could only carry the SS keys in one pocket. I'm sure that will help, but not a good limitation to have for a fob that is not used all that much, (only to open the trunk for the most part). A more robust solution would be better. My other car in the driveway, 2006 Jaguar S-Type, never does this and it also sits in a pocket, (different from the SS), with two other key chains.... The size of the fob is similar and it also fully opens the trunk when pushed. 2006 Jaguar technology works well, 2015 GM technology not so much....

But was moving around a lot when it happens tight jeans seems to do it. Never been one to haul a lot of junk in my pockets.

I removed both springs, so the trunk has to be lifted open and closes with ease now instead of having to push down.
Grab the under lid handle and pull it down and it shuts, no problem.

I started with removing just one spring which solved the trunk from opening all the way, but disliked the fact I still had to push down on the spoiler to close the trunk lid. Don't want scuffs or hand prints on the spoiler from having to do that.
So that's why I removed both springs.

I parked next to someone in the Costco parking lot with a Chevy SUV and watched her push a button to send the tailgate down electrically. She watched me get up on my toes and grab the top of the deck lid to close it. Hmm....

I removed one of the 2 springs that provide the force for the lid to open itself. Now when the trunk pops, it unlocks, but is not visibly open. I have to lift the lid. Both lift struts stay so the lid is still supported when its open and through its travel.

I had my trunk open accidentally a few times and didn't want to return to the car with a trunk full of snow or rain. Been that way for 2 years now.

Must be an echo in here. :D

I haven't had this happen yet but since the weather is cooler up here longer, I typically have my fob in a little pocket near the top of my jacket. In the summer, I put it in a lower pocket but I might be the only nerd still wearing cargo shorts.

My 2012 regal GS had the same problem.

There was a TSB to update the trunk release relay to require hitting the trunk button on the key three quick consecutive times to open.

Solved that.

I had the SS trunk pop open once overnight, fortunately it was between rain storms that night.

This has happened to me at least a dozen times. I've found the trunk open after coming out of a movie theater, restaurant, after waking up in the morning. It stopped happening when I stopped putting my key fob in my pocket.
