Steering Wheel Offset?

Admittedly, I didn't do a search....

I caught a comment on a YouTube review this weekend that the steering wheel in the SS is slightly offset.

Has anyone noticed any comfort issues with this on long(er) trips? The wheel in our Yukon XL is significantly offset, and I'm convinced this is a contributing factor to discomfort/pain on longer road trips.

The YouTube review was the only place I ever heard it mentioned, so I suspect its not a big deal.

That said, I vowed to never again own a vehicle with significant offset.

TIA

Wife and I did 2,000 mile trip last June in our month old SS. Didn't notice this at all and would've never even thought about it if someone hadn't mentioned it. Absolutely no discomfort.
You might ask AZFergie - He just did an 8,600 mile lap of the USA in his.

I've never noticed it myself...I remember another thread about this sort of thing (the seat being offset from the steering wheel) and the person said that it made it hard to see the HUD. I drive with my left hand so I naturally shift a little to the right making half the HUD disappear but that is my own fault...if I sit up straight and use both hands, everything is fine.

I've got almost 130K in my G8 with an offset wheel. I have back/neck issues but the wheel offset doesn't bother me at all.

The only thing I've noticed that I think may be related to the offset steering wheel is that whenever I park the car I have it slightly crooked in the parking spot even though my eyes tell me it's straight from the driver's seat. I don't have any problem at all parking perfectly straight in any other car.

I drove my son's 2015 M6 SS to him in Chicago Sunday and it was a real treat looking at a centered steering wheel. I'm going to try one more time to get mine fixed. I see NO REASON whey GM continues to make these kinds of customer dissatisfying mistakes. They are capable of better...

I've heard it from many places, seen pictures of it, read about it, but frankly, I don't notice it AT ALL. Granted, I've yet to own my SS for a full week, but from driving it the last 6 days, if I haven't heard about this steering wheel offset, I wouldn't even know it was there. I still don't know it's there!

Offset meaning it's not squarely in front of the seat and cluster?

The Commodore front seat frames are American sourced I think, so i would think it had been designed in from the start. I seem to remember an article saying they were the global seat frame that is used in the Volt as that allowed for the same curtain air bags to be used -not 100% sure though.

You can sort of see what I'm talking about with offset here.

I think maybe the newer ones are less severe than in my '04...

How many vehicles don't have either wheel or pedasl offset. I really don't notice it when I drive. I just get in and do it! I suppose it helps that my first car had quite a bit of offset -and I think the wheel was offet in the opposite direction to the pedals (it was an Alfa).

A lot of cars have it. Also, a lot of car forums have identical threads, with people discovering (usually by hearing/reading about it, not noticing it in their cars first) the usually-small offset and getting worried for nothing.

Now this forum has one too.

No argument that a lot of cars have it. And I didn't mean to open a can of worms.

I just wanted to see if the offset in the SS was minor compared to the noticeable offset in my current vehicle. Apparently it's minor enough to not be a concern which is a good thing.

I'm sorry, a little off topic here, but does that picture of the GMC Sierra make it look like a toy, like a PowerWheels or something?? It almost looks fake.

It's a render

The G8's offset was larger and it's only noticeable at first. After 115k miles, you really don't notice it.

I looked for it on my SS, otherwise, I might not have even noticed. It seems that they engineered the centerline of the seats and the wheel to have the perfect angle to see the center of the gauges. If you purposely force yourself to sit squarely facing forward you notice it more.

Haven't noticed this on my G8, now I will. Very noticeable on a GMC Sierra I had for a few years, but wasn't a problem.

interesting details here, thanks to all for posting. a photo of the SS offset would be useful, like with that photo of the Yukon offset. I remember the similar offset irritating me in my 1977 firebird. I suppose the offset would be easy to get used to. Also it could be helpful if one always drives with some sort one-armed snoop-dog gin&guice gangsta-lean .

I guess I need new glasses or new eyes -- I just don't notice the offset in either the SS or the Silverado. Didn't notice it in the 2012 Sierra either.

Oh, well.............

It is, but that doesn't make it a good thing. A little offset you'd never notice. My 04 Yukon - its actually awful on long trips - at least for me. trying to avoid it in the next vehicle.
