CB750, thanks for the advice I'll call CCC and open a case. I figure just dropping in and letting you guys know the deal, would serve as another indicator that 2017 MY do have these issues as well. Hence why I didn't ask any questions, and only gave a rundown of my situation. Here's the details about my car.

Year: 2017 (Purchased FEB2017 brand new)
Trans: M6
Mods: Single Turbo Kit, Tune, DSX Aux fuel system, Injectors, Spark plugs
Miles: 18.5K
Battery: Original Battery
Accidents: No Accidents
Flood: No flood
Rebuild: No
Anything Plugged in: Gauges connected to OBD port
Everyday Use: No
Warranty: Yes (for now anyway)
Original Owner: Yes
1- Your powertrain warranty will almost certainly be voided.

2- Mods will complicate and most likely end any CCC assistance.

This is why details are SO important. I would never said to contact CCC had I known the above. MY BAD ... :crying

CB, all good I haven't made contact with CCC. I've only made contact with NHTSA at this point. My car has already been released by my dealer. As previously stated, they did their software update and now the vehicle is back in my custody. I have some other things I need to get done to the car, so I have it at another shop currently.

Why would EPS be covered under powertrain??? Should be covered under the remaining B2B...

Devin,

Here was my saga thread,
Well there are happy endings after all, after much effort and persistence GM district rep relented and accepted the fact that Part # 92280375 was the part # for the batch of bad racks, and that was the same part # that was on my car but was omitted from the recall. So short story is we compromised on 1,800 reimbursement for the rack plus a "brake job" on them, starting to squeal again. I think their sticking point was GM was only going to pay so much for the labor, which meant getting money out of a mechanic's pocket (which I was not wanting to do) so we settled on part cost plus tax on both back to me, and me pay for labor. Sooo Happy Snoopy dances all around.

Thanks all for your help and information which made this work out for me, for anyone else with this issue, concentrate on the part #, if your rack part # ends with 0375 then you have a case. For anyone who has not checked their car to see if they have a "bad" one please do so, cause it's not if but when.....

So what is the part # on your rack.
If it is a different part # un hook the electrical connector and see if the rack has "gold" connector prongs.
If it does then clean the connection and put the dielectric grease on the connector and see if that helps.

Cheers,
tp

Devin,

Have you tried regreasing the power steering rack connector?

With a bit over 60K miles on my 2014 SS I started getting this same error about every 100 miles or less. (This was over 2 years ago) I could put in neutral turn off engine then turn back on to clear error and get the power steering to work. My last drive before I re-greased the connector I drove 10 miles with 6 power off/on cycles before code cleared. I had a 140 mile round trip commute to work. I drove it several thousand miles without any issues before getting the rack replaced under warranty. I have over 30K miles on the new rack so far and all is good.

I cleaned the connector then injected the dielectric lubricant into each of the slots until the lube oozed out the side.

This is what it looked like before I cleaned & relubed.

You have to remove this panel (T-15, T-20 & 13mm)

to expose the power steering motor assembly

Here's where the plug connects to, behind & higher up than the front connectors in the pic above.

Yeah but it’s failed under warranty. Not a recall replacement, a B2B (not powertrain) warranty replacement for a bad original unit. Two separate things.

Yes; here we go again.

Like I said before ... if your car is still under BtoB or an extended warranty it is a warranted parts failure. Period.

Some of youse went in screaming RECALL (on or off the list) and shot yourselves in the foot.

Yea I understand my car is outside the cutoff, but I've had 5 failures in the last 12 months with 3 in one day. I'll continue to run this down and update as I can.
I was looking at the good work of ben98gs and the 2017 SS Master Production VIN List and the secondary build dates appear to be more out of sequence when looking at the first 500+ VIN numbers. Not sure how accurate the GM steering rack memo is for 2017 as VIN 300334 which is outside of the GM memo range has a secondary build date of 9/28/16 and VIN 300099 which is in the GM memo range has a secondary build date of 10/17/16. There are many more examples. Just want to make 2017 owners aware of this anomaly.

I have a 2016 with only 7100 miles, mine just started to fail, I will get the warning no power steering, so far if shut it off and restart it seems to work. I just got this a couple of months ago, the recall was never done. I am trying to get it scheduled, is it just a plug or am i going to need more?

The whole steering rack will need to be replaced! That is what the recall is all about. On GM's dime also!
