Am I golden? (or are the EPS torque sensor connector contacts?)
So while lying under the SS when doing an oil change the other night, I tried to see the part number on the steering rack. "Sheila" was born on October 12, 2016 - an early 2017 vintage. That is the date on a build decal on the underside of the "
lower extension". The data placard on the driver's door jamb has 10/2016 also. I could not see the decal on the front side of the steering rack, near the electrical connectors, that I believe has the rack assembly part number. The lower extension panel would need to be removed to see that, or possibly with an inspection mirror from the top side, near the crank pulley area. However, there was a decal on the aft side of the steering rack that had P/N 92289251.
Some checking online did not turn up anything for that P/N. My theory is this: that is a part number of a lower component of the rack assembly, such as for the rack housing itself. With the progression of the rack P/Ns going to higher numbers - 92280375, 92288708 and lastly 92289255 for Version 3, and the 92289251 is so close to the V3 assy P/N, I sure hope I got the V3. The source of my concern is the service bulletin 17-H-009 dated 3/13/2017 that shows 2014-2016 cars are affected, and up to VIN 6G3F25RW3HL300168 (the production cut-in was the next car). My early 2017 is a few S/Ns lower (earlier) than that. On the other hand, nothing else references any 2017 MY being affected by the recall, and the Chevrolet Owner Center site shows no recalls for my VIN. No steering problems to date, with about 7,400 miles total since April. There are probably a handful of others with this scenario (the first 168 2017s?) also. I'd stop fretting :wink when I know the recall does not apply... not as much for the potential steering problem as for the invasive job to the car (suspension & steering disassembly, unbolting and lifting the engine, etc). Hopefully no news is good news.
