So my LSA kit is almost complete. Heat exchanger, what's out there and what fit's our SS.

Check out STG Motorsports on facebook.. Greg built an EXCELLENT bolt on heat exchanger kit for the LSA'd SS's.

I personally run a 2013-2014 GT500 mustang heat exchanger on mine.. its thick.. its big.. it works!.. but custom brackets had to be welded on.

PM me if you would like more info on Greg @ STG's unit.

The STG exchanger works great for me!

Thanks guys. There are "better" options out there like what I did with Ryan's (syp) SS, but obviously the loss of the crash bar and bumper support along with fabrication isnt appealing to alot of DIY'ers at home, so I took the time to develop this one.
(Thanks Stephen!)

The 101 will only fit if you have a manual transmission car - at 3.5 inches it is too thick to fit behind the bumper bar with the transmission cooler in place.

Ask me how I know this...

At least Frozen Boost has a reasonable return policy.

I have been told the LMS has a really good unit. What's thoughts on that?

I just went and measured, and it appears I was wrong, and austinb and sergezy were correct. The FB unit will fit on top of the crash bar. (I was trying to mount it low instead.)

Awful glad I found this out before I sent the unit back... :)

Thanks to all!

What do your IAT's actually run with these various heat exchangers? Just for comparison, my last Vette with LS3, Heartbeat supercharger, and stock Magnuson h/e would run 15ish over ambient at cruise. It would go up 15-20 degrees on a 30 to 120 romp. That was running at 10psi and roughly 665rwhp. It had the stock Bosch coolant pump.

My current work truck is running a front drive Magnuson 2300 on an L33 (aluminum block 5.3L). It has a mild cam, bolt ons, and sees about 11psi. About 500rwhp. It actually has two h/e's. The stock one in front of the radiator and a full size radiator with e fans mounted in the bed. The hot intercooler coolant goes first to the front h/e, then to the big one in the bed and then back to the intercooler. The intercooler pretty much gets ambient temp coolant at all times. It holds about 4 gallons if memory serves. The intercooler pump is also an 11 gpm Jabsco unit. That's about 2.5 times the flow of the Bosch pump. IAT's run 8 to 10 degrees over ambient at cruise. They jump up 10 to 15 degrees under boost. Recovery is immediate.

Almost couldn't even see the bottom one - nice and stealthy.

I just really wanted to avoid cutting anything - I've been trying to make sure any modification I do is reversible. That just might not be possible I suppose.

How you like the dual HE setup? Did you have to remove/relocate anything outside of trimming the bumper support?

I really like it, but haven't done any temperature logging yet. I didn't have the heart to cut on anything besides the plastic bumper support so I just removed everything that interfered with the heat exchangers. The two plastic pieces adjacent to the headlights and the large scoop piece below the bumper all had to go.

The issue with the frozen boost and other "heat exchangers" is that they are actually air to air intercoolers that just get buckets welded on and a fitting plopped in it so that you can use a hose.

They are also steel and heavy. Ontop of the weight (which really isnt a huge issue) steel will retain heat much longer than aluminum will, which kind of negates what you're trying to accomplish with the heat exchanger.

The ZL1 HX does fit with minor trimming, and relocation and is a good option at about $150. But its small, and thin, and if you do some research on what sort of IAt's modded ZL1's are seeing, you'll see why its a "get you by" option.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I sourced everything thing I could to go as cheap as possible. My iats are no higher than anyone else’s. Only exception would be someone with an interchiller.

Which interchiller is he using with just the ZL1 lid?
