while 305s are certainly more aggressive than stock 275 they're still rather modest.

305s (on aftermarket or modded rims) the widest tire to go under the rear of holden commodores? wonder if mini-tubbing the wheel well trunk to get wider rim/tires under there is doable?

a 305 tire on a sedan is modest?

sure you could put massive drag radials on the car and make it a one trick pony. not a lot of people want to roll/cut/pull fenders let alone go through the effort and cost of mini-tubing. This is a true daily driver for me so I am done.

He probably meant a 305 is modest in general (in the modern age). I run 345's on my C6 Z06 with no modding. Vipers came with 345. I believe the ZL1 now comes with 315s. So for the SS to be able to handle a 305 max is pretty strange. I think 305 is more than enough tire when running a drag radial on the SS, but to each their own.

I have 10" wide wheels with a +48 offset and original width 275 30 20" stretched on, those specs work fine on our cars. Even 10.5" with 285 30 R20 work well.

They do it down under.

I like the stock wheels and decided to put a set of rear wheels on the front of the car and widen another set of rear wheels to go on the back with Michelin PSS 305/30/19. After sending them off to get widened 1.5" and having them powdercoated I got the tires mounted. They are huge. there is no way you can mount them on the rear without a wheel adapter. Right now I am looking at a 25mm wheel adapter to make them fit. But they stick out of the fender slightly and I don't care for that. With the adapter it would make the wheels a 32mm offset as compared to 57mm stock

I think if I can move the fuel line and maybe the brake line inward it will free up close to 1/2 inch and let me use a smaller adapter. The driver side doesn't have any of these obstructions. I don't know if I can move the fuel and brake lines though.
That's not quite how that will work. Sorry I must have skimmed over this initially.

Offsets change after wheel modification. If you add 25.4mm [1"] to a wheel section you need to adjust offset by 12.7mm accordingly. Your offset will not stay as stamped on the wheel.

At 1.5" 38.1mm, you need to adjust the offset 19mm to account for the added widths.

Many people use fronts to add width due to the offset differences already mentioned. I sent some wheels I sold from my GXP to a company to widen them for a buyer, fronts punched out.

Either will work really, just depends on what you have on hand right :)
