Holy Crap! I'm in trouble if my wife sees that list.

#13 ·
It only gets worse haha! My wife hates the money/time I spend on my car, that is until, I let her drive it ;)

You need to start embezzling your own paycheck...just skim a little here and there. Yeah yeah you're not married to the worlds cheapest woman...not that I'm complaining, but my wife and modding cars/bikes do not get along.

#5 ·
You people with tightwad wives don't know what you've got in your corner. Mine's motto is "We have the money!" to which I reply "No, no. We make the money, and then we spend the money, so that we in fact do NOT have the money. One day we will no longer make the money, and then we will not have any money!"

Whenever she notices the exhaust is louder, I just tell her that's normal when it breaks in.

#6 ·
I figure since I make twice as much as her, I can spend twice as much.

well, I can definitely say don't waste your money on trunions. Truthfully the only time I have ever seen rocker bearings fail is from valve float, or incorrect installs. The trunion "fix" is a bandaid that pprevents the needle bearings from falling out, but they actually use a lower quality bearing than the OEM one, so many people that use them have the bearings fail and lock up rather than fall apart.

In the 10 years I have worked here we have never had a single OEM rocker arm fail regardless of usage, where as 100% of aftermarket rocker arms, or rocker arm upgrades have either caused valve float from being to heavy, or they themselves have failed in some manner. It's all about having the right spring, correct geometry, and stabilizing the rocker itself with a good rocker arm base.

Oh, and of course, I vote for our tune, which would negate the need for the skip-shift :)

My local installer had a very similar opinion. His opinion was that using the aftermarket comp cam trunion bearings was only advised when switching to a high lift cam, or for racing conditions with constant high RPM. For a car with a stock cam they have never seen a failure regardless of power output.

So I would just tell you what mods i have & you come up with a tune accordingly and I load it on your machine & load it into my ECU? All for the low low price of....?

I did the Grafxwerks SS inlay. And it looks really sharp. I ordered another SS emblem and installed it when it wasn't on the car. Much easier to do. Plus the paint guy made the original SS emblem look like arse. What is the mirror overlay you speak of?

Does the $599 for the livernois tuner include the tune customized to the application?

Looks a lot like my wish list, except I have not checked the Vegemite smuggler band delete yet... forgot to look for that when I was under the car doing CAGS del.
You ought to consider adding some paint protection film to that list too -- I don't regret mine!

#15 ·
Just ordered the catch can.

+1 for paint protection film. Have had it on a couple of cars and does wonders for preventing paint erosion on the leading edges. I will be getting all of the wear surfaces of the SS covered, including rocker panels (sand/gravel used around here in winter is hard on that area).

I had clear bra done on:
painted surfaces on front fascia and the big black front bumper cover
headlights
full hood
front fenders
rocker panels
mirror housing

#18 ·
What did that run you?

#19 ·
It's a bit pricey. About 2K, but this also included "rolling" the edges of the film under all the body panels as well. Not to mention the shop does all the local high end cars like porsche/mercedes/bmw (rolls eyes). But for this I get a lifetime guarantee at least. There was even a Bentley in the shop when I was there haha. So you can probably find it for less if you shop around.

Only trouble with clear coat bras is when they are left on for an extended period of time. My wife had one on her mazdaspeed 6 and got something underneath a spot on the hood. By time I tried dealing with it, we needed to replace the whole hood. We had it done at same type of place that did all high end cars

Oh Yeah! Just got clearance from the Doctor to drive.

Finally, I have more miles on the SS than posts in the forum.

Update

Just purchased elite catch can & air/oil separator. I'm going to order the diablo tuner & have decided not to do the trunion upgrade.

#26 ·
Roto-Fab intake just got here! I'm going out now to put it on. Friday, i should have grille and black out parts on.

#27 ·
Roto-Fab on. Catch can on. Air/oil separator: elite sent me the wrong rubber cap that was too big for the barb & hose that was too large in diameter as well. I just used the Roto-Fab hose & went to pep boys & found some rubber vacuum caps in the help section that fit. Off to test drive!

Undecided

I'm leaning towards keeping the chrome side vents, but I already ordered the black ones at time of sale as part of the deal. I'll see if we can swap them out for something else or I'll just keep them & sell them if I don't use them.

Where does that Elite air/oil separator plug in on the Roto-Fab, looks like a much different place from stock.

#33 ·
Here's a good shot of it

Air/Oil separator

1 part screws in where the oil cap went, the visible part pushes in the hole of the part that screwed in & the hose goes to the nipple on the root-fab. The barb on the other end of the hose gets plugged with a rubber cap.

In the pic, the part you cap is right above the air/oil separator (I had not yet capped it)

Holden looks awesome on the engine cover, nice work.

Thanks. If I had to do it over though, I'd start the lettering closer to the front of the cover. But, It still looks ok so I'll leave it alone.
