This has happened to me twice before. I do not remember if it was before or after I did the 29.5 Radio Update or not on my 2015 SS.

I was listening to XM or USB MP3's at the time, and either changed channel or song or something, then all of a sudden all sound muted. I thought I hit the Mute button, tried volume control, did not get my audio back. Then I noticed the blinkers did not work as well, and noticed the blinker audio normally comes out of speakers. Backup sensor "Beeping" also did not work, and I assume collision alert also. Radio continued to play what it was playing, just no audio.

The fix for this for me was leaving the car off for about 15-30 minutes. A power off / open door / power on did not do it. This allowed for the radio to completely reset/reboot. Getting out of the car/turning off the radio is not enough. The radio continues to remain powered by the car for 15-30 minutes after exiting the vehicle. You will notice this in other cases, when you power on the vehicle after it being off longer than 15-30 minutes, GPS Navigation will say "Initiating" for a good 1-2 minutes before being usable, where as if you just turned the car off and got back in, ex a quick stop at the store or for gas, it will turn back on right away and be usable.

This is a legitimate safety concern, as it disabled feedback for blinker, disabled collision alert, disabled backup and parking sensor feedback. If the user had the radio not playing music, or at a low volume, the driver may not even notice the lack of sound, and could be an issue if they rely on the alerts.

People need FCA beeps to tell you you are going to rear end someone?

... and parking sensor beeps so you don't hit something?

Yeah. I don't get it. Why buy a car with stuff on it and expect it to work all the time?

Because driving a 4000 pound car has become a secondary action.

I encountered same issue as OP on eastbound cross-country drive. Total silence from the speakers, but the MyLink was responsive aside from that. I drove the car for a couple hours like that. Stopped at rest area & restarted, and all was back to normal. The weirdest part was having total silence without the loud turn signal clicks.

I had this happen to me today. It was exactly as you describe including being OK after a restart.

I have experienced the exact situation, it worked the next day but did not work by turning off and on. on the second time I disconnected the battery, it came back on as normal. Will wait and see what happens.
both blinker volume and radio volume did not work. that is all I noticed. radio is on and when you press the left radio button it says mute and unmutes but no volume either way.

Hi Erica, I also have the exact same no audio problem. Not only is there no audio whether there's radio or XM turned on but there's no audio for the turn signals. I take it into the dealer now seven times and they cannot reproduce the problem. The dealer now wants to replace the amplifier although we already did that. We need to replace the radio head unit. Here's a YouTube video link for everyone :

... to copy the same answer and post it in the THREE threads you did:

It is a "normal" OCCASIONAL glitch. Slow down on pressing the buttons. Give the MyLink time to think; it is slow.

To clear it:

Turn off car. Get out. Walk out of FOB range. Wait a few minutes. Get in. Restart. Sound back.

Go to the dealer and have them update the radio software with the latest IP version FROM THE USB STICK; NOT reprogramming the radio.

I had this issue with my '14 a few times; after the last IP update I did (IP31 ... I think from memory) it didn't do it anymore.

BTW there is no need to spam posts multiple times ... the sky is not falling!!!

No audio

#17-NA-111 - Blank Radio Display with No Audio - (Apr 12, 2017)

Really; you say the owners are the problem... Happened again today. GM has a technical service bulletin 17NA111 so this is a real problem, not just on the 2017 but as you experienced on your 2014, my 2015 and other forum members 2016. It's not normal for the audio to just stop working completely. CBM 750 why didn't you have service fix this problem under warranty? Many others like me then could have had a fix.

That bulletin is titled:

Blank Radio Display with No Audio

I see radio display.

Did you turn off car; get out; lock; walk away for 5 minutes; unlock; and restart and find it was fine ???

If it randomly does it once in a blue moon it IS normal.

"I paid $XX,XXX for this car, it shouldn't do this!"
check out the dodge chrysler forums and fb pages , their system will shut down and leave them everything from nothing to bits and pieces , or whole programs missing

they have way to much unneeded tech in cars and trucks now

i miss being able to tab a steering wheel button once and have it do something , my PPV and SS i have to push and hold for it to do anything , its annoying as a prius in the fast lane going slow

Yep. Why does everything need to be automatic as well? I want a car that has a radio. Not a computer infotainment navigation system that has a car.

This is why I love my Civic as a daily. Pure analog goodness. No nannies limiting wheel slip and yaw rates. A gas pedal that's physically connected to the throttle body. Lack of government mandated backup cam that only exists because three people a year run over their own kid in the driveway.

the nav i dont mind , just needs a better program

the rev cam has its uses , if my ppv had i wouldnt have hit the fence at work i used to park my G8 in , it had enough room to slip by if you sucked da gut in , when the tire hit the parking bump , guess the ppv's are alot longer than i though , lol

My wife's 2015 Buick LaCrosse had the same issue (no turn signal sound, no USB playback audio). Went to the dealership and did a software update and so far, the issue has not resurfaced. My 2017 SS has not had that particular issue yet, but I have had USB playback hang. I had to unplug and re-insert the USB drive to get it to restart. Not a big deal, and as CB750 said, all cars have glitches, it's just how much "glitch" is too much. Once a month for a single occurrence of this type of issue is about my limit though. If it happened more frequently, then off to the dealer I go. I remind myself that like CB750, I paid $40K after discount for the CAR not the radio.

I will disagree with CB750 on one issue though, as an engineer for a major computer manufacturer, rare failures like this are not normal, they are instead considered acceptable, and would be fixed if easily reproducible on a large scale. The cost of reproducing rare failures and then engineering/testing/deploying/consequences of the fix is exponentially higher than a common failure. In consumer electronics (which a car is) it is about where the company draws the line in order to balance reliability and quality with development costs.

Releasing software updates on embedded systems for low relative occurrence issues is a very high risk action for most tech companies (mine included).
