Making Bluetooth the Default Audio Source?

Hello SS friends! I have a 2017 PBM (paint color is of course directly tied to any and all electrical questions) M6 SS, and I've been having an issue since I bought the car new back in '17, although it's been just not annoying enough to ask for answers about until now. Every time I get into the car and start it, the radio starts playing local FM stations, I'll drive for a few seconds, and then I have to manually go into the source menu to switch the audio to bluetooth to connect with my phone. It also will not even present bluetooth as an option to connect until after 30 seconds or so. This is strange to me because I feel that Bluetooth should be the default audio source as long as that is what I have set when I turn off the car. This happens every single time I start the car, and it is really getting on my nerves.

Does this happen to any of y'all as well? Before this car, I had a 2015 Silverado which would connect automatically and immediately to bluetooth from the second that I started the car, so I find it odd that a 2017 model GM vehicle would not do the same. I also only have one phone that I use, so it's not as if there are multiple phones to pick up on that is confusing it or what have you.

Am I alone in this? Is this part of a software update that I need to look into? What are your thoughts?

Bluetooth takes forever to connect on these cars. What works for me is to turn off the radio power before turning the car off (While using Bluetooth audio). When you get back in wait 30 seconds before turning the radio back on after starting the car. It should go right back to Bluetooth.

I have this issue. I have to manually switch to BT each time I drive. I just am so upset with Chevy MyLink I have turned the whole thing off and been listening to the motor for the last couple months. My wife's Honda has no BT issues but its a POS to drive. I don't care anymore. I'm used to driving vintage cars with a **** audio experience.

Ah. That's what I found as well after doing more research on the topic. I was hoping that someone had a hack to make it seem like I wasn't living in 2008! I suppose I can look into aftermarket head units to correct the issue as all I use the screen for is playing music. I find it odd that Holden put such a dated system into these cars, but I also am not in charge. Thanks anyway!

I think it is fair to say the SS is somewhat a leftover parts bin car that came together pretty well. Other than improving the chassis I don’t believe much “new” engineering took place, it was just take existing components off the shelf and put them together to make a functioning performance sedan that was better than the G8.

Unfortunately for those that have a problem with the MyLink unit, there really isn’t a good plug-n-play option to replace the head unit either.

Wasn’t there a new user that came on not too long ago that’s trying to figure out a way to upgrade to the newer hardware from other gm cars? I think the company is in Canada but one of the guys is from Australia if I remember correctly

Oh boy... yha, that is forbidden talk on this forum...
At one time I was interested in trying to make the current head unit do what I wanted. At this time I just use it and I still get what I want for the most part. If I ever upgrade it will be if there is a way to do a aftermarket HU and integrate the stuff that the factory provides a interface for. I have thought of a few possibilities on how to do this but it is not high enough on the list right now.
Honestly the system does what I need it to. Both of my other cars have Android auto and that is very enjoyable.

Yeah, in past threads about this I sure noticed a lot of folks saying something along the lines of "You shouldn't expect to be happy with the stereo, car drive good, pipes sound nice, blah blah blah" and all I wanted to say in response is "Ok boomer, I paid $50k for this thing and I want the stereo to work at least as well as my old 2015 Silverado did"

Sucks to hear that there is no easy upgrade. It's something that is annoying but ultimately not a deal-breaker. Oh well!
