I messaged the kStore yesterday with my version numbers and this was their reply:

yes there has software for update
yes there has software for
Alibaba Translation

kindly download software from following links, thanks. system: manual: mcu: manual: important: after update if get problems please check version menu on carplay mode, system line- information should be start with ksmart but not BOX. if it start with BOX, means update failed, please update again.
Do you still have the active link trying to get my ksmart updated thanks

Could anyone here clarify exactly what files need to be on a FAT32 formatted USB drive in order to update? I have downloaded HOLDEN_KS_Auto_DSP_0219.rar and alfa_v3.2.2.zip

It appears that the contents of the RAR should be copied to the root of the USB directly, but then the instructions show a vehicle specific ZIP file that should be there as well, and it doesn't look like alfa_v3.2.2.zip goes anywhere? Thanks!

I've noticed that Google assistant responses always get cut off. Is anyone else having that issue?
In case anyone is interested, I just thought I'd post an update to my issues. First, I enabled the AUX source on the factory head unit using OBDSync. Then I updated the KSmart using the files linked in this thread. Now my audio comes through the AUX source and my problem with Google assistant responses being cut off seems to have been resolved.

I think it's a two-step operation. You create a USB with HOLDEN_KS_Auto_DSP_0219 and load that. Then on another USB or reformat again to use the alfa file. I can't speak to it 100% as I didn't load the alfa file yet.

So got the dash all tore apart to put this in and noticed some very fine print about reverse lights for a manual trans and a diagram running off to some LED. Called it a night. What am I missing here, and where is this wire supposed to go?

I didn't do anything with that wire on my M6 and the backup camera works fine....
Thanks for the reply. After a bit of sleep and a some pondering I decided to move on and hook everything up loose and test the system. As you mentioned the camera works fine, and the reverse lights still come on. So just going to ignore that.

All said it was a bit more work than I expected. I managed to mount the box above the glove box stealing the OPs location and mounting method (thanks @evo9 ).

(attached to aluminum bar above glove box - have to remove passenger lower airbag and glovebox)

Unfortunately I have not been able to update my box yet as I cannot access the downloads section, so I sent a request off to support. Ran the USB female extension down the side of the center console so it is easily accessible in the future from the passenger foot well. It took me awhile to find the phone link settings menu to change the recommended settings (its in the device settings menu under System - Factory Mode also noted in their website FAQ), otherwise everything seems to be working fine.

Tried out both my android and my son's iphone and both work as advertised. Maps audio comes through the car as well as music, it reconnects just fine after turning off, yes it takes a little to boot the factory radio then connect to my phone but I don't have to touch anything. I did turn off automatic audio resume in my AA settings, preference though. Steering wheel controls still select prior / next track and volume. Touch response seems a little slow, but perhaps that's because I've been using the Mrs' 23 escalade. I did not mess with mirroring, it seems to be a completely separate function that requires setting up a hotspot on your phone plus possibly some of the other cables to run audio back through the usb port if I am reading right.

All said I am very happy with the upgrade, it leaves the car stock aside from a pair of holes I drilled in the dash frame, but provides a somewhat better experience than propping my phone up on the display.

I considered something like that or some double sided foam tape but on occasion I have to take some country roads that are pretty rough so the thought of having to do this again I decided the extra couple bucks for a bracket and the time tooling about with the the dremel would ensure that it stayed put.

I confirmed via chat messages with the Kremersino store on AliExpress that only HOLDEN_KS_Auto_DSP_0219.rar is needed to update the firmware. No need for alfa_v3.2.2.zip - not sure where that came from.

So for future reference, I found a 1GB USB drive formatted to FAT. I simply copied the contents of HOLDEN_KS_Auto_DSP_0219.rar archive to the root directory. With the Ksmart unit powered on, and the OEM screen switched over to the Ksmart side, I plugged in the USB drive and I was prompted to update right away. After reboot, I see now that HOLDEN is the boot screen.

Then, I needed to re-pair my phone via Bluetooth since the device name changed. On my Pixel 7a once paired, I have Phone Calls and Media audio selected, but no access to contacts and call history.

These are the settings I am using for future reference. Bold are changed from default values:

System version: Linux_3.4.0_2023-12-05
MCU version: gm09_3.1.2_305_7_255_0

General:
  • Volume = 30
  • Navigation Volume = 25
  • Auto Start Phone Link App = False (Preferred since I need to switch back over to OEM side to turn on stereo after Bluetooth turns on and connects to phone)
Car Setting:
  • Reverse Camera = OE Camera
  • Front camera time out = 0s
  • Steering camera time out = 0s
  • Dedicated right view = Off
  • Reverse Guidelines = On
  • Reverse radar = On
  • Car type = 1
  • Display type = 1
  • Sound type = 1
System> Factory Mode > Phone Link Settings:
  • Android Link Type = USB && Wireless Android Auto
  • iPhone Link Type = USB && Wireless Car Play
  • Mirroring Link Type = Wireless Mirroring
  • Right hand car driver = false
  • Disable Phone Link Audio = True
System> Factory Mode > Reversing Camera mode:
  • Auto

Lastly, navigate into Bluetooth menu/section on the Ksmart side, there is a check box for Auto-Connect, ensure that is checked so that your phone will connect automatically and be ready to start Wireless Android Auto when you select it (if you have Auto Start Phone Link App = False in General)

I'll update again in a few days of daily driving... my one outstanding issue is having to manually initiate the Bluetooth connection to the Ksmart module from my phone in order to be able to get Wireless Android Auto to connect

Everything is working nicely (again) for me now! Just need to verify phone calls, Google Assistant and I will keep this post up to date with my findings.

How many phones do you have paired to the radio? My Bluetooth connection has never been smooth and it gets worse when I have two phones paired.... It also irritates the crap out of me you cant set one phone as primary....
Just a single phone, my Pixel 7a

Did this started after you did the update?

I figured this out.. just needed to enable Auto-Connect in the Ksmart Bluetooth menu/section 👍

Did you order/install the AUX box when you ordered the Ksmart unit? I'm having similar issues with Carplay - there's no audio when Siri reads my text messages, and most of Siri's audio is cut off at the beginning when giving commands. That and the head unit track buttons not functioning are my two biggest complaints with the product, though overall I think it's worth it.

Planning on buying a '16-'17 SS in the not so distant future and like the idea of having CarPlay integrated into the OE infotainment. Didn't see anything mentioned about it (maybe I'm blind), but does it work properly with the steering wheel controls?

Yes, it still responds to steering wheels controls

I've just completed this install in my 2017 car. I had used the obdsync software to Holden convert a used 2014-15 mylink silverbox (to add the CD player) and added aux support. The installation of the box was pretty straight forward but I couldn't figure out how to remove the glove box. I installed the ksmart in the front passenger footwell behind the carpet. Hopefully I won't have any over heating issues. So far it's working great. The CD player works great and I already have a holden airbag on order to complete my Holden conversion. The android auto function is a great addition for this car and it's something that should have been available from factory.

One potential problem I saw is that when the car is off, I'm still able to turn on the mylink radio. I don't know if that is normal for these cars or if the ksmart is bypassing the ignition switch somehow. Has anyone else noticed this?
