I've been interested in this for so long, but I found it right after I did the radio Holden conversation. I thought it was a total replacement, but it seems it's just an add-on, kind of like another source? So no changes to the "base" radio software?

Also regarding the Bluetooth connection, I've built a habit of turning the radio off before the car and when I turn the radio back on it will connect to my Bluetooth audio. Would that work the same way with this unit?

factory radio works if i use waze it should pause the radio and guidance should come through the speakers that does not happen unless i start streaming music
Doesn't work that way, this is essentially a hack. The audio channels are not summed together that way. If you want radio, you could use an app on your phone potentially.

This is an add-on module that intercepts the video output to the OEM screen. You have the ability to flip back and forth between OEM and Ksmart by long-pressing the Home button

Yup, this is what I do as well

Awesome thanks! And thanks OP for the original info. I'll be getting this soon now!

I've been eyeing one of these for my car. I rented an Audi when I was up in Chicago on vacation and having Android Auto was an absolute lifesaver. I do have a phone mount, but those things are so finicky and flimsy especially when it comes to charging my Pixel 7 through wireless charging. For whatever reason, the guys at Google decided to put the volume buttons right where the mount clips, so getting it in just the right place to both charge the phone and not turn the volume all the way down is a hassle.

My question is this.

Suppose I want to run Waze through Android Auto using the KSmart module. Can I have the sound come through my phone speakers from Waze while I still listen to either the broadcast band/XM/USB/CD through MyLink? I figure I can use the steering wheel controls to switch between XM/broadcast band presets and tracks on the USB drive, and keep Waze on the screen. Does that work at all?

Once AA is connected, the phone will route audio through the device it's connected to. You will have to choose if you want to hear Radio or AA. I know XM has an app, and I'm sure you could find your local terrestrial stations on Broadcastify.

There is a USB cable included in with the Ksmart module, but I have not installed it. It appears you could play music off a USB drive connected to it though.

Hi Everyone. It's good to know that the Kremersino Ksmart carplay/android auto module is working for you. I received mine yesterday and unfortunately it does not work. There is no display on the MyLink screen and the LEDs on the module do not light up.

I checked and rechecked the cabling which is correctly connected. I just started messaging about the matter with the Kremersino store which acknowledged receiving the message and will get back with me soon. I have a feeling this may take several hours or days.

One question though about the blue cables, are they connected like the other (larger cables). That is, are they connected to the SS's wiring harness to the ksmart module and back into the SS's wiring harness. Or like some other unit I've seen on Youtube, does one end of the blue cable connect to the SS's LCD display? And are the two LEDs on the module supposed to light up?

OBTW, I uninstalled the ksmart unit and the MyLink system works normally as before.

So things have been working great for me, but started having issues so I factory reset the ksmart unit and paired my phone again. I have auto-connect Android Audio disabled as I did before, so when I first get in the car, I connect BT and can listen normally through OEM MyLink. But when I start Android Auto, everything works normally except I lose sound.

I don't remember having this problem when setting up the first time.. anyone else experience this? Thanks!

Edit: Updating to the latest firmware fixed all this, see my post #71 in this thread

Reference my June 27, 2024 post (#27). I exchanged chat messages with the Kremersino store on AliExpress where I bought the kSmart carplay kit. They insisted that I send videos or photos of my installation. I explained everything, but that wasn't acceptable to them. So, I had to send photos of the cable connections which confirmed that there's only one way to make the cable connections. However, I was told that the module was not receiving power via the yellow cable in the multipin connector. I then found that the pin at the end of this cable had been pushed back almost out of the connector rather than mating with the corresponding pin/socket on the OEM unit. With needle nose pliers, I pulled the pin back into its slot in the connector and all is good.

The unit works well and automatically reconnects my iphone on each ignition cycle. But this takes about a minute. Curiously, the GPS nav maps (Apple, Google or Waze) will not output the audio directions unless a sound app is first played on the iphone.

It's not perfect, but it's affordable, it works and it's the only way I have found to have upgraded GPS maps to function in the SS.

When I first got the kSmart module properly installed, I had both Android Auto and Carplay phones connected, but now I only use Carplay. However, I do recall after switching to Carplay and back to Android Auto (or maybe vice versa), I'd lose sound. After checking or changing several different things to try to get the sound back, I recall having to go to the Bluetooth connected devices on the phone and for the Chevrolet SS, I had to turn the media audio back on.
As indicated, I'm not sure which phone had the "no audio" problem. And I'm not sure where the setting was changed, in the Bluetooth connections or in an Android app, but try this and if it doesn't work, I'll retrace what I did.

Did you install the usb cable? If so, I would try updated to the latest software. I was having a lot of audio issues, but once I updated everything seems to be working as it should (androidauto-wise).

If you have facebook, there's a thread on the SS page of a guy explaining the update and provide the latest software package to download. You can try going directly to ksmart, but they were unresponsive the 2 times I reached out to them to get the latest software.

I did get a reply from ksmart with the update files, but I need to find the USB cable that I didn't install! I hope I won't have to order another one lol

Is the reply from ksmart with the update files something you can share? My communications with ksmart have been cumbersome.

Does any one have pics of how they installed the usb box and the cables? I can not figure that part out.

I couldn't figure that part out either. It seems to work okay through Bluetooth without it though. On another note, does anyone know what version the latest firmware/software update is for this? Contacting them is a little slow in response so far. Pictured is what mine shows.

I'm hoping some can help me with the usb connection. I'm fine with bluetooth. However, bluetooth takes a few seconds to show up and connect and then connect to the ksmart box. USB is how you upgrade the system though.

Here's my version I know it's not the latest. Plus I can't get phone mirroring to work.

I think I read somewhere that the AUX connection was required for the mirroring to work.

Hmm. My aux is enabled (2016). I'll dig around some more. I know the SS FB group post that has the software update walk thru said it wasn't an issue after the update.

I just installed mine last weekend. Overall I like it very much. I'm having two issues with it though.

1. I've noticed the aforementioned low volume issue. Has anyone figured this out yet?
2. I'm getting some random and brief dropouts with the infotainment display for about 0.25 seconds, especially at night for some reason. Anyone else experience this?

Also, as far as firmware updates are concerned, I'm a little confused about which USB device I will need. It came with a USB cable with a molex connector on one end and a USB female connector on the other. If I get the firmware updated, will I need to get the additional USB dongle that the 2016 and 2017 SS models apparently need?
