so then you just have to cancel out the “no remote detected” message in the DIC, hit the start/stop button twice to shut car off, etc.

I assume the fob signal can be detected/replicated anytime it’s out of the bag? For example to unlock with the handle button, or to start the car. Is that correct?

I also assume that most of these losers operate either while car is parked at home or as you’re walking away from the car in a parking lot, so doing what you do would be highly effective in most cases. I’m just trying to understand the limitations of using a faraday bag.
Right, I generally take it out in my garage to shut the car off excpet the times i dont and have to do what you outlined.

It is kind of a pita when approaching the car to unlock you are fumbling with the bag potentially opening up your self to a fine upstanding individual looking to "help" themselves.....

Also keep in mind some of these kill devices completely kill the car including remote start which for my M6 isnt a big deal....

So fuse F57UA on the schematic is F42 under the hood. Pulling that should disable only the starter. I'll try it tomorrow. View attachment 304672
That diagram and listing from the OM is incorrect. Thankfully the fuse box cover has the correct information.
See the note here --

I wonder if putting in a fake clutch pedal would deter some thieves.

This is step one, an easy one for times of extreme concern. Takes less than a minute. Running a switch to the wire that supplies this may be next, but I want to investigate the 'immobilizer circuit' first..there may be an easier way. This was to prove that stopping the starter wouldn't cause codes or other issues... haven't seen any yet.

I kind of wonder what this thing may be about, but you can't see the other end of the harness and the details are pretty vague. Trying to explain the make and model and expecting them to be aware of it and have a clue is probably a deal killer regardless.

do a kill switch to the fuel pump and you’ll be good and definitely recommend a aftermarket alarm so it can go off when doors open alot of people brake glass to go in because oem alarm dont go off so with a aftermarket alarm it’ll definitely go off

Mine is being installed tomorrow, it’s not the cheapest option but it works.

15SuperSport - For most Manual's generally there is a switch at the clutch pedal to interrupt the starter if it's not depressed. I don't see it in my sketchy schematic bits, but if there, you could add a kill switch to it.

The fuel pump kill switch would work well, but they could still crank the starter....a lot. I'd prefer to stop the starter.

The Ravelco is very effective, just don't lose the key.

For the auto's, X1 pin 1 on the ECM may do a similar interrupt function, not sure. Still looking. ò¿ò

With the ravelco, they give you a slip you can mail in if you lose it. It comes with two!

From what people are posting in the facebook threads for the at least 6 cars that have been "permanently borrowed" since Jan, the onstar module is stupid easy to rip out and throw away rendering it useless.

Best I can tell all the cars targeted are autos, sounds like a mix of the remote amplifier (get a faraday bag) and another way at least. Some people were well out of range for an amplifier to work so they must be cloning the key at the car or reprogramming a blank on the spot.
I tried to follow that but I'm backward on such lingo and concepts, I'm afraid.

Auto theft is terrible in Houston. The Police are understaffed and honestly are getting to where they don't care. The thieves have moved on from trucks and tahoes so nothing is safe.

As mentioned a faraday bag is a big help, but thieves are also bringing their own computer and key programmed to it and they just swap it out in a couple of minutes. Be cautious where you park and such. I ended up keeping my old beater I never drive anymore to block my truck in. Many people are throwing air tags and such in hidden places so they can track them.
I'm 60. I read these posts and I'm just clueless. Very little anybody says on here, on this issue, makes any real sense to me. Fortunately, mine is blocked in at home, but I'll be gone for two days in a couple weeks (still blocked in but by '93 Nissan instead of '21 Tundra).

But it sounds like whatever these techniques are can happen in the grocery store parking lot.

I can't say that I have the issue, but I'd consider this if I did. Hidden in the battery compartment of the trunk may find it to be quite effective.

So, you have how long to trigger this. How far away can car be to trigger it.

I'm not sure, but member @HoldenOn with more knowledge than both of us on the subject posted that it may not be such a good idea for our cars due to it's amperage rating and the constant computer on/off scenario.
I like the starter disable thought that could be achieved through a switch at the relay he tested above. I also like a clutch switch interrupt for a manual like mine. I believe an automatic requires the brake pedal to be pushed in order to start the car, as well as to take it out of park, so a disable switch on that circuit may be very good for auto guys, they wouldn't even be able to push the car away without accessing the override access point under your console cubby boot.
