I just finished wrapping up the interior black trim install on my SS.

I ordered the following pieces:
Black Shifter surround
Black Navigation Surround
Black Lower Steering wheel trim.

I ordered this kit from Karo @ HoldenPartsUSA.

He is in California and I got my parts to NC in 3 days.

Overall the install went fairly smoothly.

You will need the following:
Trim removal tool kit from Harbor Freight.
Phillips head screw drivers
10mm socket
T20 torx socket
3/8 ratchet wrench.

Start with the shifter surround - start by using your trim removal tool to pull toward you on the top of the shifter pieces.

If you pull on the bottom - you can break it and snap off the retaining clips. I broke one last year trying to put in a C7 shifter.

Remove both sides.

Navigation Surround - start by opening the glove box and pull on black trim piece on the passenger side of the dash. There are 5 or 6 tabs holding it in and it will come out.

Now under the ignition switch - start on the drivers side black trim piece. With a finger nail pull toward you - then insert your trim removal tool and pull towards you. The 3 retaining clips will then release and the part will come out.

Now pull the radio assembly toward you - and use your trim removal tool on the bottom to help loosen it up. Once the radio comes out - remove the three wire harnesses connecting to the touch screen.

After the touch screen is out - start removing the 10 black Phillips head screw drivers. Look at your black trim piece to review where all of the screws are at. 2 of them are hidden by the seat cooler/heater wiring. Pull the wiring aside - and remove the 2 screws.

Now remove the chrome trim ring - and insert the black trim piece. Put all of the Phillips screws back in - and get ready to put it back in the car. Reconnect the 3 wire plugs on the back of the touch screen - and push the unit back into the car.

Install the lower shifter black trim pieces - be careful and push them in lightly.

Now for the steering wheel - you only need to remove the airbag for this part. Turn the car on - and place the steering wheel flat bottom side up. This will expose the 2 holes on the bottom of the wheel.

Use a screw driver - and find the metal rod inside the 2 holes. Push the rod toward the center of the steering wheel - this will loosen up airbag.

Loosen up both sides - but do not remove the air bag. Turn the car back on and put the steering wheel in the normal position.

Turn the car off - go to the trunk - and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery using a 10mm socket.

Go back into the interior - and remove the air bag. The plugs have an orange tang that you must pop up - then remove.

Remove the airbag - and put it on the floor. The switches and the chrome trim piece are just pushed into the rubber portion of the steering wheel.

Start by using your trim removal tool and pull up on the bottom of the wheel - underneath where the airbag was. After your loosen up the bottom - use your trim removal tool to loosen up by the buttons.

Also disconnect the wire harness connecting the buttons on both sides. Now remove the trim/button assembly from the steering wheel.

You will need a T20 torx bit to remove the buttons from the chrome trim. Put the buttons onto the new black trim ring - and hand tighten with the T20 bit.

Now push the button/trim ring assembly back into the wheel slowly - and with very little pressure. This will take some time but it will click in.

Rettach the 2 button wiring harnesses on each side - and then reattach the air bag. The air bag connectors are color coordinated. Push airbag back in the car.

Reattach the battery cable - and enjoy your new black trim interior kit!

That video is invaluable. Thank you!
Good call on making sure to tell people how to remove the trim to the RT and LT of the shifter that angels up to the front of the car. You have to start at the front and pull back toward the rear of the car. The bottom clips are parallel to the ground. If you pull up on the back part of the trim, it will brake the tabs off.

Nice work. Never bothered to document mine. And still have the steering wheel trim in the basement ready to go.... maybe once the LSA work is all done I will have time to yank the trim....

Nice write up!

I got my blackout interior stuff from Karo installed a few weeks ago! Love the look! Now I don't get blinded by reflections quite as much anymore. Still get them off the top of the shift knob from time to time though.

Okay. So, the black trim will still reflect the sunlight. That's my main reason looking to change the chrome to something else. Maybe a matte wrapping job is what I need to stop any reflections.

Karo, Holden Parts USA, comes thru again.

Just received the interior black trim, Holden Center caps, Owner's manual wallet (little pricey, but she's worth it) Front door sills with Holden Lion.
Parts look great, very good packaging and service.

This will look sharp when installed.

Hey guys, Karo is working at growing his business, thus you have to do some things via email vs a large staff. Prices very competitive I think.

Karo, thanks for the little extras.

Important information

Okay, a big shout-out to bonecrrusher for his how to.

I completed my swap out for black interior trim today and it looks amazing. The cockpit now has an entirely different feel, aesthetic. The small bits of chrome remaining appear as accents.

What is so amazing about this is I consider myself a novice at this sort of work. Yes, years ago use to do engine work, but nothing on the new complicated vehicles.

Get the black trim from Karo or where ever you shop. Get the trim-tool set, I got the 11-piece for about $25 or so and this kit is what makes the job possible. That and the instructions from the OP in No. 1 post.

For a couple of hundred bucks and probably 4 hours or so, the change to the interior is amazing.

there are very few How-to posts here that are really complete "how-to". this is one of them.

I know, no pics didn't happen. it was to dark when I finished. but look at post no 1, which does not really do it justice.

thanks again bonecrrusher.

Does this help?????
