some of you might have already seen in this in the Facebook group but just incase...

this is a factory ZL1 Suede and Red Stitched Steering wheel i just installed earlier today!! again this is actually a factory ZL1 Steering wheel from GM with the ZL1 trim just changed to a an SS trim from another GM.

i think the trim in carbon fiber will go really well when i get a chance to do one down the road.

in addition this wheel feels so awesome in your hands! if you haven't noticed it matches exactly to the current suede and the red trim already in the SS.

one thing you must know is this is NOT a direct swap. though the wheel and air bag swap right over, all wiring, controls and air bag spring base have to be swapped. also know the trim on the ZL1 wheel is different, so SS trim will not swap over at all. (well unless you start making some mods to the steering wheel). you will have to use the SS controls in this wheel since the ones that come with the ZL1 are missing features and wires. modifications will also need to be done to the steering wheel controls to be able to get the controls to work with the ZL1 trim.

anyhow this factory Genuine GM wheel is a SUPER DEAL! starting on my website at only $199.00! this is an awesome upgrade!!! you can order yours here: https://www.maverickmancarbon.com/collections/chevy-ss-sedan-parts/products/zl1-suede-steering-wheel-with-red-stitching

Maverick Man how does the suede hold up with frequent use? I am looking to recover my wheel with Alacantara and I have been given mixed reviews from people who have had suede wheels. Given this is a factory wheel any complaints or comments over there? I have sourced an SS wheel to fit the flappy paddles to my GTS as soon as the interface is sorted and I can get the wheel covered before I do the swap. Thanks.

I have had experience with aftermarket suede wheels before and over time they do have some issues with wear but like most wheels they all get wear. Do know if you have sweaty hands I would thing it would cause the suede to react to it.

As far as issue with the ZL1 wheel I am not sure I do. It follow the camaro stuff much.

Having been through a few very expensive wheels in my time I now drive exclusively with Bionic driving gloves. Better grip, like a second skin, and no hand oil on anything.

That wheel looks soooo much better. Great job!

Mine did not.

You have to remove the cruise module from stock wheel and adapt it to fit the ZL1 wheel if I recall. Swap out the ZL1 bottom trim for the SS or live with ZL1 like is mentioned.

Anyone know the size of the large torx screw to remove the steering wheel. Internet says T45 or T50.

Also, any tips on removing the cruise and radio controls without breaking any of the tabs?

i recommend using a pick to remove them. and do it carefully. ;) even if you break one and still have the others it will be fine.
