The other day I rolled up my window and when it hit the end of travel there was a snap and the sound of something falling down inside the door panel. If I had to guess from the sound as it fell this is a piece of plastic.

The window stays up, and, although I haven't been brave enough to fully test it, when I bumped the switch it went down a few inches and then back up with no problems.

Any thoughts on what I might find when I remove the door panel?

If you search for "door panel removal" you should get a few hits.

If me I would test the window when you can let the car sit should it not go back up. Then remove the door panel and see what you find in the bottom of the door. It could be a tab on the regulator snapped off or it could be part of the window motror drive cable. I have replaced a few window regulators in our other GM vehicles, IMO they are designed to fail over time.

Likely a broken regulator. Had my left rear regulator break in much the same way you described.
