First off, I know that the $500 spare tire option for the SS was a bargain and I wanted it, but I could not get it. There were only two cars in the entire area and neither had it.

So what I'm wondering is if a G8 donut tire would fit the SS. From what I understand, the bolt pattern is the same. If it is possible, will any year G8 tire work or were there changes across the different years they made the car? Thanks.

Only the rears. Like the G8 GXP, space saver won't fit over the Brembos.
Check out the threads about the spare tire.

Excellent. That will work just fine then. If I ever get a flat on the front, I would just replace the OEM rear tire with the donut, then put the OEM rear tire on the front. That will work and all I want the donut for is a quick fix in the event the fix-a-flat doesn't work. Thanks for the confirmation.

I just went to eBay and was lucky enough to buy a brand new donut for the G8. It's $230 with the shipping. Hopefully I did OK. Here's a link to the listing:

08 09 Pontiac G8 Spare Wheel Tire Donut 17" 5x120 | eBay

All I've got to do now is order up the jack and misc items, then I'm good to go with the spare tire.

Might wanna check the fitment of the rear on the front since it is a staggered setup. Might be less work in the end to pick up a cheap aftermarket wheel that fits the fronts and throw a used tire on it.

You are correct. The rears are wider than the fronts and it does not look like they can be swapped because the rear rim won't clear the front shock.

However, for $230, I am happy to at least have a real spare for the rear and will carry the fix-a-flat for the front.

My ultimate goal would be to get the OEM spare, but it is so expensive that I don't think I can justify it.

Any leads on a good aftermarket rim that would fit the front? I did search through the threads on the forum, but did not see anything conclusive.

I just checked a couple of websites and could not come up with an aftermarket rim that fits the SS. Please post back if anyone knows of any aftermarket options.

Peruse the G8 boards (Grrrr8.net and G8board.com) and look for GXP's with aftermarket wheels. There is also a sticky on what fits, offsets, etc. Plenty of folks using VMR's, Camaro wheels, and the like.
Plus tirerack.

Thanks for the tip. I will do that. What I want is an inexpensive rim just for the spare. Is there any chance that a spacer could be used with the G8 donut?

I doubt it.

OK. I still have the G8 spare coming, so when I get it, I'll measure it up, take pictures and report back. Maybe there is a way to make it work. If not, I'll have to wait for the aftermarket to start offering some lower cost rim options. I did check tire rack and they show nothing that will fit the SS.

Thanks for the link. I just read it and it looks like there are two options that don't require a spacer. One looks to cost as much as the OEM rim and tire and the other would be about half. At this point, I think I'll just go with the G8 donut to cover the rear and down the road spring for the OEM option.

Here is my short term solution. I started by ordering the jack, wrench and inserts for the trunk.

Tire Automotive tire Wheel Auto part Rim
Auto part Wheel Hubcap Automotive wheel system Spoke

I received the G8 donut and it fits just fine on the rear and fits nicely in the trunk as well. The height of the donut seems to be within an inch of the OEM tire.

Land vehicle Car Tire Automotive tire Alloy wheel
Alloy wheel Tire Wheel Automotive tire Rim
Tire Alloy wheel Automotive tire Wheel Auto part

My dealer quoted me $1700 for the OEM rim and tire which I can't justify. I only have $200 into the donut which is better than not having it and the air compressor fits in the trunk as well. I'm hoping that in a year or two or three, I can pick up a used rim.

No doubt, but that's what I expected. That's why I plan to give it some time and should eventually be able to find a used rim from a salvage yard down the road. Unfortunately, some of these cars will end up there .....

Just got a wheel and tire fron tire rack for $370. Paired with the $154 for the jack kit I am set for the road. The spare is a real deal.
Tell us the details and a couple of pics if you please. :)
Could be a life-saver for dummies like myself that didn't order a spare.
Thanks!

Got the wheel and tire at tire rack like I said. Bremmer BR08 wheel and a Firestone all season tire sized for the front. The wheels were being discontinued so you may need to find an alternative. Pretty straightforward to do as the ss now shows up with a list of wheels and tires that fit. I picked a cheaper wheel that doesn't weigh a ton. Also got the TMPS deal, but that is clearly optional for a spare.

The jack and parts were ordered online from GM parts outlet. The part numbers are in another thread as well.

13505398 - handle
92257864 - f -container
92265119 - f- jack
92420335 - f -retainer

You will need the bottom three to secure the jack to the wheel well. If you get a different lug nut wrench that fits you can skip the handle.

Will post photos when I have a chance.
