I have read the manual and it says that the initial break-in is done after the first 621 miles. Is this the proper time to do the first oil change? Historically, for a new car, I usually change the oil at the 1000 mile mark.

Is that old school or can you just go to 5000 with the advances in oil technology? I will be using full synthetic, probably like everyone else, and plan to change it after that at every 5000 miles going forward. I've never had a car with this type of engine, so I am not sure if the oil change intervals should be closer. Thanks.

I went to the dealer and requested one at 700 miles, they said I better pay for it as the scheduled oil changes cannot be done unless car says 20% oil...

so...I'm not planning to fill up with synthetic as I plan to have the warranty sort out if anything goes South...I figure these cars are made for whatever they put in.

My dealer told me something similar. For the 2 year maintenance, you can only get 4 oil changes, so you're looking at an oil change every 6 months regardless of mileage. He told me when that first came out, Chevy didn't specify how many so people were at the dealership every month wanting a free oil change - imagine that :)

What kind of oil is in there from the factory?

well, they gave me a write up on 3 years worth of oil changes so I can technically legally push them as they didn't specify twice a year...

as far as oil, I assume it's the regular stuff, since I was quoted 40 bux to change it...regular or not, it's the Chevy approved to keep your warranty, so that's good enough for me.

I decided not to do the oil change my last visit, but they did say they did an alignment and the car wasn't off by much...I got nothing on paper so I can't verify anything. What I do know is that my wheel came in a few degrees of center towards the window, and that is exactly how it left.

Seems like a very common issue, so common I wonder if this was done on purpose, as otherwise things wouldn't be quite so the same...

I asked my dealer when I bought the car for a free oil change at 1k miles (not counted against the 4 I'm allowed) along with an alignment check at 1k and they were fine with that. Just to be safe, I waited to complete my survey until this was done and I had no issues getting it done, they were friendly about it and I met the guy who runs the service dept. They also gave me a loaner car. Have 4500 miles now and I plan on waiting till around 10% left on the oil life to get my future oil changes.

Oh and I did try my best to follow break in procedures but it's almost impossible to keep it under 68 on the freeways here.

You need to ask some engine guys about 1st oil change. I've been told not to change too early as the factory oil is sometimes loaded with additives to help with the breakin.
Also not necessary to go crazy on changing Synthetics to soon as they keep solid for a good while.I've had Mobil 1 tested at 7500m and additive package is still fully intact.Just something to think about. Ive used both Mobil 1 and Penzoil and they seem really good

Under 1000 miles I buy my own Mobil 1 5w30 gm dexso approved along with GM spec 6094m, GM4718m, dealer changes it for me about 17.00 bucks. They did it complimentary for my first. I also supply my own filter UPF48R AC DELCO this is the filter for the dry sump ZR1 and Z06. For all you folks who drive by the oil life monitor think about this nothing has changed Filters are better that means they pick up more trash and can clog going into by pass mode, clearances are tighter sure but you are riding on a layer of oil when it shears away you have metal to metal contact ie wear. Because we are timed injected we don't have the fuel wash that carbs gave us. Top tier gas has better additives to keep engine injectors and values clean. Well Mobil 1 is full synthetic not a blend. GM went to it to help gas mileage and to aid in lowering oil temps and prevent coking of the oil.
So use whatever gas and oil you like I'm around 19 miles to gallon so I will see what happens as I continue to drive with the Mobil 1. Chevron 93 octane and would love some 92/93 octane pure gas.

Going to wait until 5K to change mine. Then onto full synthetic with the black ZR1 filter. My sales guy will pay for my oil changes for the life of my ownership. I am just going to pay for the upgrade to sythetic.

I'm sitting at 50MPG now. It's super cheap stuff since I order it by the crate from India.

The engine also makes cool knocking sounds now too letting everyone around me know about that V8 power. It's dope, Yo.
do you get fries with that?

not real sure what prompted you to respond with that...but it wasn't real helpful or funny

You can search but Chevy Customer Support already specified we get 4 oil changes and we can do them when we want them done. If you PM them, they have some form/letter they can give you....or they call your dealership, something along those lines :)

As for the oil they use, just had mine done today at 1300 miles and they run some synthetic blend they told me. I paid an extra $27 for 8 quarts of Mobil 1.

Wanted to get the alignment done, and of course their computer machine didn't have the SS profile, so gotta wait till next week for that. I brought them the alignment specs posted here by customer support, but I guess their tech either doesn't know or didn't want to try to manually do it.

thanks for the info...I definitely need to get my wheel straight and if everyone recommends to do an oil change early I'll jump on the band wagon as I was promised 3 years of oil changes and the best I got out of a single car was 2.5 years before I was bored.

Yes, my dealer did go over that with me, but I will need more than 4 so some will need to be done by myself and I actually enjoy doing this type of service on the cars.

I saw somewhere else about people wanting to do alignments. How come so early? Are they out from the factory?

Yup. Probably during shipping.

The alignment is fine as in it drives perfectly straight and does not pull, the issue is the steering wheel off center to the left by a few degrees.
Funny you say that. We called that out at the dealer when we did the test drive and I have an appointment this Thursday to get the wheel straightened. The alignment is fine.
