A lot of new questions about wheel swap "will they fit" popping up.

Someone else posted this calculator and it's the best I've seen.

Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit

The numbers that pop up are swapping a front wheel on the rear.

I got 4 fronts with TPM's and am going to put Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 XL's on all 4 corners so I can rotate and survive winter weather. Yes I know the A/S3's suck in anything above a dusting of snow but they are super in wet and dry and I do not drive with snow on the roads!

According to my dynamics contact cornering and traction will not be an issue for 'normal' driving ... just pushing the top 25% of it's limits is where the non staggered start making it hairy. Also the TC will kick in sooner because of the smaller contact patch or it will smoke 'em sooner with it off. Of course going from the super sticky RE50A's to even the best of all weathers will loose grip also but again we are talking normal/spirited driving here and on public roads not pulling almost 1G which is kinda reckless.

Are you going to use 245/40/19 (26.7" OD) or 255/40/19 (27" OD)?

"dynamics contact"???
exactly new size in calculator which is to be clear 4 factory front wheels and 4 factory size front tires which are .1" bigger than existing factory rears all 4 corners. I thought that was clear.

" "dynamics contact"???" huh??? = my engineering 'source' for vehicle dynamics.

Think he wants to know who is the dynamics contact you mentioned in your earlier post. LOL

I never opened the link to see that you had loaded it with your planned fitment. I'm looking at a similar situation with PPV, but stock tire is 27.3, so 255/40-19 is closer to the target, and it may add a little more "broad shoulder" look to the combination, especially if my lowering plans for the car work out.

Understand desire for confidentiality - but can we assume this is someone with the OEM or tire manufacturer?

Don't mean to pry...not to diminish what your source has to say, it's still necessary to recognize (for others reading this) there are so many variables that impact actual (tire) performance that are going to be found in real-world situations, that defining or predicting the "at the limit" performance characteristics, (as you have presented them) of a given tire or size combination (staggered vs non-staggered) is not a simple task, and measuring, detecting or actually experiencing the differences will be a challenge for most drivers.

Put another way, how many drivers, out of 100, would be able to do blind tests of identical cars fitted with the same tires, but one setup would be staggered and the other one not staggered, and note the differences in handling or overall vehicle dynamics--and be able to say which was which?

It's somewhat rhetorical, but I don't have an answer, other than to say that the "average" driver (how many SS drivers would put their ability as "above average"?) might guess right 50% of the time.

I do think the A/S3 is a good choice, and definitely on my list.
