I've had friends give their assumptions of the meaning. My favorite was Super Super.

Thank you for that in depth dissertation on the origin of the possible meaning of SS.
ST, I see you edited out part of your original reply to my post--no harm, no foul--and as a bit of tongue-in-cheek, I understand your desire for levity, as in "Soiled Shorts".

My only reason to post was to put down a marker for the truth about how the "SS" moniker came to be. No mystery and easily searchable, but considering it all started nearly 60 years ago, some here weren't born and some may never have had any exposure to the information that (I) posted. Nothing more, nothing less.

A corvette was first referred to as an SS around 56&57 first Chevy pass car was 1961 SS with single four barrel carb 380 horse I think 62 was 409/409 63 was 409/425. Z11 was 62 409 punched to 427 2 piece intake 2 four barrel carbs 13 to one compression.
