I have been negotiating for a couple of weeks on purchasing an SS.

My wife and I decided to trade in my Formula and Silverado and keep our TBSS.
We are GM Employee discount eligible, so we were looking for a dealer who would accept that.
Our local dealer in town was an absolute "No!". I think they plan on marking their car up when they get it.
So we start searching around and find a dealer about 2 hours away who will take it. While in the process of negotiating trade in value, they sell it.
On to another dealer, 20 miles from the other dealer. We talk, agree on a trade range, and I am getting ready to head over there today. Then the first dealer calls. The SS they sold last Friday was traded back in. "Too much car" they said. So now I am in the position of having 2 dealers fight over my business, and they are both offering to pay me $100 if we can't make a deal!

Both cars are black. The one without a spare is new. The one with a spare is considered used, but they will certify it, and give me a price lower than GMS price.

So now I get to spend my afternoon haggling with not 1 but 2 dealerships. I guess this may be the perfect storm for us. Wish us luck.

Just last night my wife took a call about 6 PM from a Chevy dealer east of Sacramento. I had a brief conversation with this dealership in June while looking for a new Malibu for my wife. At that time I asked them if they were going to get any of the new SS's in stock. They said yes when they were allowed to order. I noticed in an inventory search awhile back that they had one in stock. But I had already ordered mine. The call last night was "we have an SS in stock if you care to look at it and we are prepared to deal". I am 80 miles from this dealer. What does this tell you?? Some dealers can't get this car to move so they are getting desperate. One dealer down the road from them has one marked up!!! I said no thanks, I'll wait on my ordered car.

You don't need to pay extra for certifying it. Just make sure they transfer the warranty in the system which started when they entered it in the system as sold the first time. The maintenance, onstar 6 months, 1 year XM all continue from the in service date.

I'm sure the dealer banged the guy for a grand or 2 minimum trading it back so keep that in mind and don't let them low ball your trades to make it up!

Trying to decide myself if I want to get the SS. I need the SS for the seat (seriously bad spinal issues), RWD, and nice V8. I just bought a very nice Genesis Rspec - 429HP, 5.0l normally aspirated, 8 speed automatic. The Rspec is loaded with some very nice equipment, and it does run great under 5 sec 0-60. This is what I am thinking of trading - has only 4700 miles on it, but seat and steering telescope is not working out for me. Cannot get up on the wheel as i need to. Wish the SS had some of the nicer features and warranty as the Rspec has. So trying to decide on a black new SS. Drove it 2 times, but dont want to take a huge hit on my trade. IMHO they should put a telescoping steering wheel and leave the auto parking feature off the SS (my wife is not going to be driving it).

Price for new black sunroof/spare tire SS is $47,170 MSRP, but they put $1,002 worth of tint, nitro air, etc junk on it, so its $48,172. I can get a Service/USAA $750 discount, so essentially back to the $47,422 MSRP. Does this sound like a fair deal for MSRP ( I know this is the MSRP, just asking for input).

Again wish they had 5yr/60k mile bumper to bumper as Rspec. Have tried to deal with seat, etc but dont want to tear up a nice new Rspec, etc ... so looking seriously at SS. I have been following the SS for over a year, etc, and read lots of folks input regarding the SS on this site.

Any input would be appreciated. Regards. PS -- the SS runs really nice and smooth .... it is not like an out of control monster that some folks say it is. Just is missing some nice features that should come on it, and that are on the Rspec. Needs 8 speed for better gas mileage, and other misc features. So, is the SS a good investment? Thanks again. dp

Got to love when you have dealers fighting for your business.
I think getting charged MSRP is okay, at least you're not paying a markup. But getting anything off MSRP will be a win. since two dealers are fighting for your business you might want to try bringing the price down the best you can.

Welcome to the forum drpearso, sorry about your back, that you can't easily get the Rspec to work for you, and that you'll probably have to eat it on trade in.
By telescoping wheel, I guess you must mean "power" telescoping, because if I'm not mistaken, I think the SS wheel DOES telescope/tilt manually with the release of one lever?
I hope you can find an SS that will accommodate your needs, it really is a nice ride!

KenSS -- thanks for the reply. The SS does have manual tilt/telescope. I prefer auto so it can get out of the way when i get out ... same with seat. Regardless, I need to belly up to the bar, or lose the black SS I have driven twice. I'll have to trade my 2013 4,700 mile 2013 Rspec in for $33k. It had an original MSRP of $48K. I did not pay $48k, but still is a tough pill to swallow, and the Rspec really does get after it with the 429HP 5.0L RWD. So, trying to decide to do it, or not. Price of having a really bad spine. I used to drive SHO's since they had great power bolster seats in the past. Regards

Will see what happens .... would do it for sure if some misc items were on the SS.... may just do it anyway. Thanks again.

a cheat way I found was to tweet the pics with my Twitter or if you use FB then on your Home PC just Copy URL of the image and post to forum.
What can I say, I'm lazy like that.
It's how I posted most of the Outer Harbour pics

Hey DP.
Funny. I was looking at the R Spec this morning on Edmunds. I thought it probably goes fast straight, but looks kinda mushy in the corners...

You should also look at a CPO/used E550 Benz as well. One feature I really like is the power steering wheel and the Benz takes a huge hit after two years and are in the same price range as the SS. The Hyundai looses value pretty bad too...

You better decide if the lack of power wheel is worth $10k.

good luck.

KenSS -- Well, i screwed around and the SS I drove twice and was wanting to buy is gone. I put to much energy into making sure my wifes needs were considered, and thus did not belly up to the bar and trade my 4,700mile new 2013 Genesis Rspec which they were going to give me $33k trade in value for. Whatever, i screwed up and the SS sold .... I saw it going down the street driven by a lady. I talked to her at a store and she said her husband was a wholesaler, meaning he was just getting the SS to flip it. That made me sick .... I'd rather see someone buy like the fine folks on this forum who would enjoy the SS. My loss, and my bad judgement, period.

You guys enjoy your SS's, they are really nice rides ... great on the road or around town. Just a great car. Regards, and Merry Xmas.

Oh come on drpearso! You didn't screw up and can't give up THAT easily! There will be more and now you have a little time to figure out exactly which color and whether you want a sunroof and/or spare tire or not (I highly recommend getting the spare tire!).
As they say, patience is a virtue, and there are folks on this forum (hey Headrat!) that have almost more patience than humanly possible!
I recommend going to the Chevrolet site and doing a search in your zip, expanding it some if you have to, and find the one that is waiting for you!
Merry Christmas to you too brother, it will work out!

KenSS -- What a darn nice person you are. You are correct. My spine ordeal is what really eats at me, so have been trying to deal with car since last year. I had 21 years where I had 2 models of cars that worked for the spine, but did not cost 60-70k as a 550I with power bolsters.

Previously I pulled up all the SS within 200 miles and there are some out there. Doubt if they are still there, and doubt they will give me 33k trade on my car, but will just move on, and see where things go. Just need a good bolstered seat, RWD, V8. Could wait for 2015 Genesis -- seat is suppose to be way different. Genesis dropped the ball regarding their seats and non-telescoping wheel on their nice 5.0L 429HP V8, RWD Genesis sedan. Genesis V8 is a nice car, but I dont want to wait and maybe find out the seat is still sub-marginal. Maybe will get a 2 door sport coupe to drive until 2015s come in June, and/or go get a expensive BMW 550i with power bolsters (way to expensive). ATS has power bolsters, but I'm like most of the folks on this forum, I like the feel of a V8 (normally aspirated). ATS has 3.6L V6 .... they are suppose to put the 420HP dual turbo 3.6L V6 in the ATS, but I'm not really a turbo dude and the price for that would be way up there.

OK, thanks for the advise ... I'm only 63, but serious spine issues/pain, and I have to go in and get chemo for Leukemia which I have put off for 12 months plus (Leukemia is like a flea bite compared to spine ordeal). So, that was part of the do it while I can deal. Let me look up and see who has SS's still in this area. I hope I did not tip someone off about that SS here since I posted the town i live in (ok, if a SS person, but not for a wholesaler that will try to rip off some Marines/Army folks around here). Dealer here is getting a Red one in, but that's going to the owners wife. I agree about the real tire -- this black one here had tire and sunroof.

Again, thanks for the advise, will chill ... move on, no other choice. Regards -- have a good day, Merry Christmas to all the SS folks out there. Dan
