So my wife and I originally decided to put off the purchase because it was hard to justify a 3rd (summer only) car. We sat down to look at the finances planning to order one for 2015. As we were going through things, we realized that our weekly expense for after school day care was NOT listed as an expense, but rather rolled into our petty cash for groceries, gas, etc. After 16 years of paying day care, it all ends this June which means that we will have an extra $600+ a month - money that we didn't even know was coming. Therefore, we decided to transfer the day care money to the car which leaves our bottom line as it was. You talk about great timing.
I did an inventory search on Chevy's website and there are only 2 in all of Central New York. As I mentioned in another thread, one dealer wants $1631 over MSRP and the other dealer wanted MSRP and would not go any lower. The dealer at MSRP is one that I have dealt with before as I had last purchased a 2010 Malibu LTZ from them. He felt bad, but said he was already told that there is no negotiation, but he had a $250 coupon that the dealer has (that is issued by Chevy) that they can use at their own discretion. Still not feeling good about that, I searched all of the Chevy incentives and saw one for "Customer Appreciation". Not knowing what is was, I called Chevy Customer Service to inquire and they put me over to the Marketing Department. They said that they sometimes hand them out on a case by case basis. They started asking me a bunch of different questions and after 20 minutes, they issued me a $500 certificate for the car. You talk about helping to build customer loyalty, this was awesome and unexpected. With that said, we are paying $750 under MSRP which actually sounds like a good price. We pick it up on Monday.
