Thanks for the welcome Ken! Hopefully some folks here can take advantage of it. FYI... I do know one person (not military) who opened an account with USAA and they never requested any verification of military service. He got the $750 discount with no problem.

I'm not advocating anyone should do that, just making them aware.

This is almost always only if you use the usaa car buying service and I did not see the SS on their site a few weeks ago. I got this on a 2011 GMC Terrain, but the dealers normally have a military discount. I know I got a $500 discount.

Discount USAA

I did ask my dealer if I could get a discount by being a USAA member. He said yup. $ 750 off. So I you were a military member, past or present, and join USAA ( free to join, they'll ask you some service related questions) then you can get the $750 discount. I know, it's already in my estimate.

I'm hoping that the USAA and the military discount is extended past Jan 2014, my rocketship won't be here until March or April so when I did my order we had to figure those discounts OUT of the equation. It is stipulated though, all incentives will be deducted when vehicle is delivered. USAA discount is probably still going to be going through, but I'm not sure GM will offer the supplier discount to all military again (like it is now). Would love it, but not counting on it.

As I understand it you must be a USAA member for 6 months before being eligible for the discount.....
Also.... I believe any USAA account including checking or savings is valid for the discount. It simply says you have to be a "member" to be eligible. Why not open a checking account with $5 in it?

I tried that, you have to actually be eligible for their Auto insurance, which means meeting the qualification standards (military). Anyone in the general public can open a bank account thru them but that doesn't let you get the discount, they only refer you to their True Car (sp?) car buying service, which is basically a referral & info site that tries to tell you average selling prices for the car you're looking at buying.

I'm curious then. How were you rejected for the $750 discount... what was it you needed to supply in order to be eligible and who was it that rejected it....Chevy or USAA? Sounds very odd....

You go thru USAA's car buying service under discounts, enter the car info you're buying, then somewhere it asks for you to log in and that's where it recognizes if you're elgible. My dealer had asked me to print a certificate from them for the discount but that's where I got stuck. It said too bad so sad on the discount but that I could use their true car (I think) service for price info and quotes. The dealer still took the $750 off though but not via USAA I don't think.

I don't have any checking or savings accounts with USAA, I am a member though, I dont use their car buying service nor their insurance. I have a credit card with them. I purchased my SS on 01/04 at Supplier pricing (Credit Union) and called usaa and they faxed a letter stating I was a member. Thats all you need for the additional 750.00 discount.
