GM may switch the Chevy SS to its rear-wheel drive Alpha platform in the sports sedan's next-generation. The same may be true of the Holden Commodore, which currently has an uncertain future.
GM is considering a new plan which would have the next-generation SS designed and built in the US. The car would be built on the Alpha platform that underpins the Cadillac ATS and CTS, as well as the next-generation Chevy Camaro. Australia would receive the SS, rebadged as a Holden.
This plan, however, conflicts with a previous rumor, which suggested that GM may move the production of the SS and its Caprice PPV police car to North America on a Zeta II platform in 2015.
GM is probably considering multiple different plans right now for its non-luxury rear-drive sedans.
