I was looking on Chevy's website at the comparison tool they have. I saw something that stood out. Under TPMS there is no check. I took a look at the manual and it said that "This vehicle may have a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS)."

Does it or doesn't it? Is it direct or indirect? I'm ordering winter wheels so I can put them on when my car arrives (Est. Jan 21st) and want to make sure I have everything I need.

Yes, direct.

I am going to order 2 factory front wheels and the TPM sensors which are available...

But there is no picture, listing or p/n for the stem/stem kit!

No sense ordering them without being able to seal that little hole....

Not sure if this kit (below) is universal or not. If you have Discount Tire or America's Tire in your area, they will have what you are looking for, too.

Found this "valve kit" browsing parts info:

TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR. Fits: 2012 Chevrolet Corvette 2 DOOR Gas 8 Cylinder 6.2L | Tonkin Online Parts

VALVE KIT. Tire Valve and Cover Lock. Vehicle Security.
VALVE KIT,TIRE(INCLS ALUM CAP, CORE, GROMMET, NUT)(ACDelco #19117460). STEM-VALVE-VALVE KIT, Tire Valve and Cover Lock. For: A ALUM WHL(PZ4) (2008-2008) (2008 - 2008). Required: 04

MUCH better cost-wise to get the kit than to buy the individual parts. Looks like it sells as a quantity pack--dealers should have it.

GM PART # 19117460
PACK QTY: 16
List Price:$5.42
Dealer Cost:$2.87 (per kit)

Good discussion, also keep in mind that the SS TPMS requires a special tool for calibration. We do not have the old method of letting air out of each tire to have the vehicle identify it.

If you let enough air out of one wheel (check all positions first) and then go drive the car, you'll find out whether the position that is showing lower pressure or alarm is the same one....poor man's way of testing--but you are right that it requires a tool or tech assistance to reset TPMS sensor positions or establish them at initial installation, wheel swap, etc.

Who is rotating SS tires--anyone?

TPMS is government mandated from 2007 and on.

In short it's impossible to buy a car 2007 and newer without TPMS of some kind.

That's why I thought it was odd to see that on their website. I thought that they might classify it differently if it was indirect. I wanted to clarify so I could get my winter wheels on as soon as I get it.

I have one of these tools to reset the system when I change to snow tires. This is the same tool a lot of the dealers use. Not that expensive for the ability to relearn the tpm's.

Put new 18" wheels and studded tires all around. Cant get studded 19" tires to fit the factory rims. The tire shop couldn't insure he could get the right sensors, so I had them left out. The warning light on the dash is on, but I'll live with that until the part shops catch up...

Hi guys

Hope you're all well and the weather is warming up over your part of the world as it's certainly warm here! Anyone been watching the Australian Open Tennis? 44C days, which has caused the extreme heat policy to come into effect and matches postponed

Ok down to business

Our VF SSV Redlines don't have the TPMS system, however our HSV's do so I'm not sure if your valve stems are metal (silver) or plastic (black) but I hope these will help you all out

Metal (silver) ones

Valve Stem FOR Tyre Pressure Monitor Sensor TPMS Stem Holden HSV Dodge Chrysler | eBay

Plastic (black)

Schrader HSV VE E2 E3 VF WM Tyre Pressure Inflation Monitor Valve Stem X 4 | eBay

The plastic (black) ones I can 100% confirm are what our HSV's have fitted to them and are identical to the ones on my VF GTS

The issue with brake clearance is not that 18" won't clear--the wheel offset and back of wheel to front of caliper clearance is the issue. Using 19" wheels as the production fitment is a matter of what the style/appearance, wheel & tire design load rating(s) - based on the vehicle's performance parameters, suspension tuning, wheel/tire mass, GVWR, caliper clearance requirements, and market/competition positioning, all combined, dictates what wheel sizes were ideal for a car in this market segment--finally, all of this is balanced against cost.

There are 18" wheels in the aftermarket meeting the above clearance criteria that can be fitted to a Brembo-equipped SS or GXP. Just realize that the 04-07 Cadillac CTS-V--same size rotor (355mm) and same basic Brembo caliper profile--used 18" wheels - I'm not suggesting V wheels, as they were 6-lug.

I've not confirmed that SS and PPV systems work exactly the same, but here's something (3 consecutive posts - via above link) that may shed some light on TPMS function and how it can be adjusted.

And there's this, from SS owner's manual: (beginning on page 10-45)

TPMS Sensor Matching Process
Each TPMS sensor has a unique
identification code. The identification
code needs to be matched to a new
tire/wheel position after rotating the
vehicle’s tires or replacing one or
more of the TPMS sensors. Also,
the TPMS sensor matching process
should be performed after replacing
a spare tire with a road tire
containing the TPMS sensor. The
malfunction light and the DIC
message, if equipped, should go off
at the next ignition cycle. The
sensors are matched to the tire/
wheel positions, using a TPMS
relearn tool
, in the following order:
left front tire, right front tire, right
rear tire, and left rear tire. See your
dealer for service or to purchase a
relearn tool.

There are two minutes to match the
first tire/wheel position, and
five minutes overall to match all four
tire/wheel positions. If it takes
longer, the matching process stops
and must be restarted.

The TPMS sensor matching process is:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN with
the engine off.
3. Use the MENU button to select
the Vehicle Information Menu in
the Driver Information
Center (DIC).
4. Use the thumbwheel to scroll to
the Tire Pressure Menu Item
screen.
5. Press and hold the SET/CLR
button to begin the sensor
matching process.
A message requesting
acceptance of the process may
display.
6. If requested, press the SET/CLR
button again to confirm the
selection.
The horn sounds twice to signal
the receiver is in relearn mode
and the TIRE LEARN or TIRE
LEARNING ACTIVE message
displays on the DIC screen.
7. Start with the left front tire.
8. Place the relearn tool against
the tire sidewall, near the valve
stem. Then press the button to
activate the TPMS sensor.
A horn chirp confirms that the
sensor identification code has
been matched to this tire and
wheel position.
9. Proceed to the right front tire,
and repeat the procedure in
Step 8.
10. Proceed to the right rear tire,
and repeat the procedure in
Step 8.
11. Proceed to the left rear tire,
and repeat the procedure in
Step 8. The horn sounds two
times to indicate the sensor
identification code has been
matched to the left rear tire,
and the TPMS sensor matching
process is no longer active.
The TIRE LEARN or TIRE
LEARNING ACTIVE message
on the DIC display screen
goes off.
12. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF.
13. Set all four tires to the
recommended air pressure
level as indicated on the Tire
and Loading Information label.

Follow up:

TPM's are sensitive. When driving they may frequently change readings a pound or two for one or more wheels because of conditions. The sunny side of the vehicle can read higher than the shady side. Slam the brakes on a few times and the front will read higher than the rear. Leave it idle a while and on my yukon the RF and RR read a pound higher because of the cooling fan heat and exhaust system temp. This is normal especially if for example the TP is actually at say 35.9 or 36.1 cold so they will bounce around almost continually.

Also remember 'tolerance stack' of them and a hand held gauge.

I don't see why they need to have the trigger points reset if they are OEM and functioning correctly. The set points for warning is 25% placard pressure both plus and minus. On 3 Yukons and an Enclave I find this to be 100% true in reality.
