... is there a sixth gear lockout on the '15 manual? It could probably be done, in similar fashion to the skip shift. ...
I haven't opened such a transmission to be able to answer with certainty. But having crawled around under the 2015 manual to install my "loom extender", there are connections for CAGS and reverse-lockout but there does not appear to be any electrical connection for a hypothetical 6th-lockout.

What is that about?
It is my understanding that if you hold WOT through the gears that the transmission will not shift into 6th, but will instead hold in 5th gear as long as you are at full throttle.

If you lift off the throttle the shift will happen and then you can go back to WOT.

It MAY BE that the highest MPH will be in 5th since the stock engine does not have the HP to pull to higher speed with such a steep 6th gear.

All of this is hearsay - I have no definitive proof (but I have heard this from more than one source)

One internet rumor source had this....
Road surface Asphalt Tar Font Flooring

appears to be a shot taken of the HUD at speed on a highway in "Mexico".

I have it on good authority that the pic was taken with an iPhone 8 actually held by the driver.
I know the driver well enough to believe him.
Headrat can corroborate, as he knows the driver pretty well too.

104 is the most I’ve ever pushed it, and it didn’t feel very stable. Granted, I was running DWS tires so not a lot of sticky properties. Can’t imagine creeping up to 150+. 🫤

SaberOne, like me, you are likely running V rated tires, good for 149 MPH, as long as they have not sustained any bruises. 145 on the road course @ New Hampshire Motor Speedway was good enough for this superannuated fossil.

170 for me, speedo said 173 or so.
Was by myself, and no pics, so no proof.
Don't know if I could have gone faster, I didn't want to push my luck and backed off.

A little highway that cuts though a somewhat famous ranch in "Mexico" can have its advantages. Straight as an arrow, wide open and very flat with no side road intersections for about 10 miles makes for a much safer place to do stupid things in an automobile.

Ironically, I've never made a top speed run on any car, just to see how fast it goes. That said, I have have run several cars to its top speed just because I was running it that hard for a number of reasons(not in a sanctioned race, mind you), that, we won't go into. But anyway, the fastest speed that I ever got my SS up to was 142 when I was passing a long line of cars, in Mexico, of course.

I believe the consensus has been that on stock tune the M6 is limited to about 175 +/- while the 2014 A6 is limited to 159 due to transmission rotating mass. BTW that 159/160 is in 5th gear as the A6 will not shift into sixth under WOT and may be locked out completely above a certain MPH. Tach indicated right around 5800 rpm
When it achieves the limit it is a very different experience than the 142 wall & stutter jerkiness that the 1986 IROC exhibited. The SS is very smooth and gentle when the limit comes into play. It just stops gaining speed and maintains at 159 plus or minus a few depending on up slope or down slope and wind direction.

Oh man, top speed runs... That brings back some memories of my younger and dumber days. I learned that I could outrun cops and the Motorola. I also learned that cops can track you via satellite, but it's not admissible in court. Been scared of big brother since that visit to the patrol car, seeing what they could see.

Yep, one must choose carefully where and when to attempt foolish things while considering the consequences of even a small error in judgement.
Eight and a half years can change one's viewpoint considerably.

165 gps in current car. 160 speedo in first (stock) SS. 175 in AMG E63S.

I think I've got the power to get to 200 now. Someday, in perfect conditions, on the right road, and with spotters, I'd like to give it a go!
