Thinking of buying a 2016 SS.

I found a 2016 SS auto near me for $33,995. It has 95,000 miles. I’ve done research about the car but I still have questions. How do these cars hold up with mileage? Are there any problems I’d run into?

i'd check the mag ride shocks. It's always question I'd look at with those not converted to coilovers. There seems to be an issue getting the shocks.

Going take a look at it today I’ll definitely ask about them and get a record of service on the car. I’ll keep an eye out for the shocks and ask about them. Thank you!!
Welcome, there is a wealth of info on the forum regarding “common” issues.

Short answer, rear magride shocks are probably the most common problem area, but many of the issues occurred in the ‘15 MY supposedly due to a bad batch of seals. If they appear oily/particularly dirty compared to the rest of the underside they may be leaking even if the ride/drive mode changes seem ok. Availability of replacement shocks so far has not been a major problem, though there have been extended periods (several months) where you had to wait for another batch to be produced before they were available again. I have a spare pair on the shelf, just in case.

One thing to confirm, the steering rack and seat belt recalls should have been performed in order for them to sell the car (if this is a dealer sale). If private party I would still ask and then have a dealer run the VIN for you to see what they show.

Many SS owners on the forum have put a lot of miles on their car without major issues, there have been a few owners that seem to have had more than their fair share of problems. Typical car in that regard I think, for an uncommonly good car in most other ways.

Good luck with your search/decision.

The cars hold up pretty well with mileage, especially if it was well cared for. Engine, trans, diff are all solid. But, we're starting to find it hard to get some parts, body parts, trim pieces and such. The shocks are getting far and few between, also. But, it's still a wonderful car. I loved mine for 6 1/2 years.

I never hear anyone say anything about it, but I've wondered how the seats will hold up with mileage/age. Not like there's an abundance of oem seat covers, and there are many seams on the seats. It's something I've been secretly dreading every time I sit in mine.

Also, valve springs. At that mileage, change them.

Don't get into an accident, even what might seem to be minor ones can have an insurance company declare the car totaled due to unattainable parts.

Perfect example: Loss of a 2014 Heron White classic
125,000 miles. New plugs and plug wires and it runs like the day I got it. New rear MagRide shocks, steering rack went out, and I broke a valve spring like 6 years and 120,000 miles ago. That's it.

Regardless if they list the Chevy SS (I saw Monte Carlo SS), the SS LS3 does not have any form of AFM/DFM…the G8 GT L76 did but not the GXP, or the SS, LS3.

I have no idea what’s in your engine bay, I know what’s in mine.

Good luck.

In lieu of starting a whole new thread on the topic, I'm looking at a 2015 with 75,000 miles and was wondering the same thing as the OP. I've had a LS3 car in the past so I am familiar with the motors and my biggest worry would be mag ride. Hypothetically speaking 3 years from now MagRide goes out...do we think I am SOL in finding a replacement? Would coilovers be my only option and do we think those would be available? Guess I'm a bit worried about buying a relatively expensive used vehicle that I may have trouble finding parts for in the event (when) there is a failure.

Overall they sound like reliable vehicles and even though its coming from being a daily driver, it won't be mine.

Good luck with your decision!! AFAIAC its not a deal breaker for me,,, but that said,,, your concerns are likely founded!! In my case,,, I turn my own wrenches soooo may be easier in my case with those particular issues!! YES,, there are some parts that are no longer available NEW from the dealers,,, and that list will not be getting smaller anytime soon!!

Again,, Good Luck!!

Welcome faithvough. Issues are few. The 2015-17 use magride shocks which may get hard to find. The 2014 rides a bit stiffer without.
