Australian car manufacturers get a lot of help from the government, and that is why the government wants them to step up their game with a better export strategy. As Holden is producing the Chevy SS in Australia, the success of the SS could really help out the Aussie car industry. Holden used to make the Pontiac G8 for export to the US but then Pontiac got axed.

I don't know if the 2,000 vehicles exported per year is significant enough to make a big difference, or if that number needs to rise to make a difference for Holden.

So if the SS sells really well it will be nice for Aussie auto workers. I guess they get a lot of government assistance as it is and the new government wants things to change so that they stop just taking tax payers dollars.

Buy an SS, save the Australian car industry.

Don't know the ratio but I would guess less than 20% are V8, it was lower when Holden had fleet sales but now most are retail sales, I have only seen 2 evokes since release but every day i see sport/calais, the fleet market was big on V6 so the ratio was around 10% then

i dont know is the SS is that important to the aussie industry. I mean theres only 2000 of them. I think the Aussies are just trying to run damage control after losing Ford manufacturing, at least thats what i heard one of our aussie members saying :D:D
