Had the roof on my 06 Impala SS and only opened it twice in 6 1/2 years to make sure it wasn't stuck. With thinning hair, not a big fan of sunny head going down the road. Oh, and the SS has "ventilated" seats. Air blows top and bottom. Don't know how long it would take to cool the leather, but the function is there. My SS will have a solid roof!!I think where you live has to have some weight in the decision. I live in South Texas and have a sunroof on my Avalanche as well. MOST of the time I have it close with the cover slid over it to keep as much baking sun out of the interior as I can. With the SS having black seats (same as my AV) your buns will cook if the sun shines on them.
this! ^^^I didn't get a roof for a couple of reasons.
Had one on the V-8 'bird and after the novelty wore off I found myself just leaving it closed.
Leaks and maintenance. I know this is going to stir the bucket but sunroof are usually a 'sore point' if not when new almost always as a car ages. Headliners are a PITA to replace! Ask anybody with an early lambda.
Body rigidity. Yeah I know extra reinforcement for cars with roofs if the structure was engineered assuming no roof. If the structure was engineered assuming a roof no extra reinforcement needed. So no roof makes for a more rigid structure. Most if not all body structures are engineered assuming a roof now for crash test standards, production efficiency and parts standardization; just a different roof stamping between the two. Our cars should be capable of pulling 1G and if i'm in the mood to give it a try I don't want to hear a creaky or poppy noise from my roof!
Melanoma. No extra sun for me.
Yeah, roofs increase the resale ability and residual value percentage but hey mines a keeper .... these are the last proper cars.
