Standard Chevy Bowtie or Flowtie?

I tried to get the gold bow tie off the front to black the entire thing. There are 4 plastic clips that attach it to the grill that you can't get to without removing the entire bumper cover. If you look real close the clips are one way push in for quick assembly.

Flow tie

I did the conversion to the Holden Badge and can confirm what has been said here. The "Chevy" grille is pretty solid behind the badge where it is clipped in so there probably would be no advantage from an airflow perspective. On the Camaro the grill is different and it doesn't have the solid backing behind the badge like the SS does.

If you take the bow tie off there is a molded section behind it that duplicates the bow tie in black plastic with the clip mounts.

evilss, You pulled it off or ripped it off? If I could get it off without breaking it I would mill the gold center off so it's recessed and paint the center black. Do you have any hints on how to get it off without breaking the 4 tabs. Any help is appreciated.

Here's a couple shots of what's behind the bow tie:

Black Out Bowtie

I had such good success with changing my SS to red that I decided to try making the bowties black. A sheet of matte black vinyl and a new blade in the exacto knife and I modified the front and rear bowties right on the car.

How did you get it off, I tried to get the tabs from behind but cannot move the large ones.
Just did this Saturday morning, was kind of a pain in the neck. I started right to left, big outside tab then moved left to the middle tabs then large outside tab on left. Once you have the horizontal right tab loose start pulling the emblems carefully away from the grille. I then wedged a plastic trim tool in between the emblem and grille. This allowed me to start working the middle tabs free. I had a harder time with the middle vertical tabs. Once they are free work to the last tab and apply pressure without breaking it. Work from the front to pull the emblem off. Took about 30 minutes to do it without damaging the grille or emblems.

Not my car, unfortunately. I replaced the entire grill with Holden parts.
See above for more info.

Hey Great. But have you been through any car washes? How'd it hold up?
