GXP was $40k new. With inflation, I'm guessing the same car new in 2014 would be about $42k.

This list is all the stuff the SS has that my car doesn't.

SS v G8 GXP Differences:
(These come from the SS owners manual. If I missed something or the car doesn’t physically have a listed feature, please let me know!)
Lighter Car
Seat backs- electric recline
Seats- 3 position memory system
Seats – heated and ventilated, and can come on with remote start.
Paddle shifters
Forward Collision Alert System
Lane Departure Warning
Blind Zone Alert
Backup Camera (aftermarket mod on G8) And it has traffic alerts when backing up.
Ultrasonic Parking Assist
Automatic Parking Assist
DIC Engineering Mode- Now a part of the regular DIC system. And shows MPG instead of LPG.
Keyless Access- lock buttons on door handles pop out when Fob is near. You can program what button opens what doors.
Push Button Start.
Heated Mirrors
Auto Dimming Mirrors (another aftermarket G8 mod. Drivers side dims also.
Reverse Tilt Mirrors (great for backing up!)
Knee Airbags
USB Plug in Center Arm Rest.
Rain Sensing Wipers
Electric Parking Brake
Electric Steering
HUD (and it has G-meters!)
DIC shows a lot more stuff!
Infotainment System- What can I say? Bluetooth (phone and Streaming), NAV, APPS, BOSE Stereo, aux via plug and USB, Pandora. Have to keep the car 2 years just to figure it all out (or let a 6 year old teach you)! (phone Bluetooth only available on ‘09.5 G8’s)
Sharkfin Antenna
Brake assist (for emergency stops)
Hill Start Assist (for those in San Francisco)
Competition mode- WooHoo!! (less nannies)
Trans- In manual one can start out in 2nd or 3rd if needed. (G8 was 2nd only I think)
Full size jack and spare (another aftermarket G8 mod)

And the little handle on the inside of the trunk lid.

Some folks don't like the price of the car, but I kinda think all this stuff is worth more than $5k.

GXP also says Pontiac all over it!
And it also has the stealth mode
Maybe I can add 6M to the 2015 list

I looked around and the base Corvette price only went up about $1200 between '09 and '13. So $41-42k for the GXP, had it continued, would be close.

I forgot to add staggered wheels to the list.

Not just staggered, but forged as well. IIRC, the GXP wheels were cast, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I believe you are correct.

It was also pointed out that the G8 would also start out in 2nd and 3rd in manual.

Hmmm, wonder how much of a weight difference there is between the two sets of rims.
Compare the GXP rim to the CTS-V rim. CTS-V rims are forged which is why I had them on my last GXP...

GXP was MSRP'd at around $43k new, SS is around $47k new. Adjusted for inflation, it's about a wash on price.

Thanx. I was thinking it was a tad over $40k. Add a grand for inflation (using base Vette prices for comparison) and you still get a lot for the price.

GG tax figures for about $1600 of the base price of "$39,995" that GM was trying to hit. I think it was actually around $41k before GG tax.

well i have driven a G8, a G8 GXP and a SS finally. i could see why someone who owned a G8 likes their G8 and wants to keep it. given if i owned a G8 i wouldn't want an SS either. but to be honest the SS hands down is a better car (i can see all the rolling eyes balls now over on one of the G8 forums). lol! but just like the G8 is a better car then the GTO, (yes i said it and i own a GTO i can face the truth) the SS is a better car then the G8 sorry guys.

as GXPaycheck said, the differences between the two are a lot for what you get. bottom line there is just A LOT MORE to this car.

price to high again it's called inflation. i mean i can say "hey your G8 is a rip off you should buy a GTO!" heck... (i can't believe this forum deleted the word [H]ell) i bought my GTO NEW at the dealer for $25250!!! how about a used CTSV? sorry like Jeremy Clarkson said " it looks like it was designed by a ruler" and sorry the dash HAVC on them are just hideous. but don't get me wrong i would take that motor in a sec. and well maybe the wagon just because it was different but it is still no Holden. lol!

no stick? personally i don't care about that either. and i think the majority won't either. i mean look at the poll here about stick vs auto. that post is embarrassing because it just really shows what people really want. just like the whole bland colors same thing. given i would love some crazy color for marketing reasons. but i do understand as a company you need to do what will move product. look around you, most colors sold are white, silver and black.

SS too bland still? personally the more bland the better. i never keep my cars stock which to me makes better for me to personalize it and make it something where people will ask "****, what is that? i want one!" i also have to say sorry the GTO was also kinda of bland but it does not fail every time i get into my GTO and drive it, one of three things happen.

1. i get thumbs up.
2. people asking me to roll down my window to ask what the car is and to complement it.
3. people will slow up traffic to take photos of the car while they are driving
4. the best some guy in some high end car like will always stare it down.

i expect this SS to get the same response when i am done with it! ;)

conclusion you're gonna like what you like no one is going to change your mind. if i could own a GTO, G8, SS and a Cadillac Catera i would!

You can add to the list:
Knee airbag
Higher grade leather and plastic on some surfaces
High tensile steel used to increase torsional rigidity
Larger front and rear anti sway bars and complete overhaul of all suspension components. Either replaced and/or recalibrated.
Aluminium front suspension
Aluminium hood and trunk
Engine sits closer to firewall and lower in engine bay to help lower centre of gravity.
Monotube shocks on front
Revised bushes all round.
70% of chassis was revised and redone. Much with high tensile steel.
Revised A pillar to reduce blindspot.
New engine tune.
Revised brakes stop the car shorter distance.
Lighter doors to reduce weight.
Additional sound proofing around firewall and under car to reduce road and drivetrain noise.
Thicker windscreen glass to reduce noise.
Aluminium brace across firewall for mounting of steering rack and dashboard (previously steel)
Improved pedestrian safety with larger crush zones
Improved five star crash results in all tests
Much higher G rating for cornering
Use of soft touch materials on things like ventilation controls and door rests
More efficient air conditioning unit fitted
LED lighting in centre console and on doors
Brand new electrical bus for whole of car
New seat frames and cushioning for front seats.
New padding for rear seats
Improved paint facility to (hopefully) improve overall paint quality and consistency
Forged alloy wheels with 9 inch on the rear and 8.5 inch on the front
Revisions to manual transmission to improve shift feel (ok hopefully you will all get this soon!)
Revisions to auto transmission for faster shifts and now has more sensors monitoring car to help it decide what to do. Paddle shifters also added.
Front seats now lower in car.
Illuminated steering wheel controls and new smaller wheel with flat bottom taken from Opel model range (also used on some Cruze)
New stalks for wipers and indicators (thanks Chev and Opel)
New controls for lights (thanks Chev)
Boot release has been moved from glove box to drivers door (very handy)
Window controls now on doors.
Lock and Unlock all doors from buttons on both front doors.
Memory settings for drivers seat now on door.
Trunk now opens fully when released.
Improved LED lighting for instruments, now multicoloured shown, with needles now doing full cycle on engine start (pretty)
High resolution colour screens for DIC and MyLink.
Upgraded USB ports in center console
Leather upgraded. More expensive plastics and suede materials used on trim. Softer touch materials used on arm rest of doors.
Finer red stitching used to designate the Redline model, which has also carried over to Chev SS.
Improved bluetooth
Voice control for most infotainment
Upgraded seals on doors

Probably some other things I can't think of now, but thats what comes immediately to mind.

Oh and the last point is purely subjective, but I will say this. The last Commodore which was VE, didn't sway me enough to buy one and leave Ford and Mazda, which I usually buy. Not only is VF (SS) not only a huge improvement, but importantly its a huge improvement in every way. I've owned my Redline SS-V now for a couple of months and absolutely love the car. Its a great enthusiasts car and you get a real sense of occasion when you drive it. Its grown up and been to finishing school, but it still has enough of its Australian and American roots that it will rip your bloody arm off if you mess with it. Like most Aussies its a good thing to have on your side. :) This is car is engineered in every way to be a better car and when you drive it, you can see it and most importantly feel it.

I really believe that despite all the Internet knockers, this car will become a classic both in Australia and the US. Its the best Zeta based GM car we are ever likely to see and its dam good fun to own and drive. I've owned some great cars, but I've never owned a better one. Whats more I will bet this car will still be giving its owners trouble free miles, long after the competition has hit the scrap heap.
