Yesterday while watching football I couldn't help but notice that there is absolutely zero advertising for the SS. (at least in my area) Not sure if they're waiting for them to actually be sitting on showroom floors or what.

The G8 had little to no marketing as well but I think GM new it would be sold in a limited number so the $ spent on marketing didn't make sense.

The vast majority of the public has no idea that Chevy is offering a proper full size, sporty 415 hp sedan. If they plan on selling the SS in large numbers why aren't they advertising.

I doubt we'll see anything in the way of advertising for the SS unless it is in combination with other Chevrolet models; somewhat of a broad brush lineup type of advertisement. This car is going to see less than half the volume of the Corvette if we are lucky!

I don't understand did they spend to much on the production and have nothing left in the pocket for marketing and promotion?

Everything has a budget and I can assure you the SS does not have a very big one. The SS will not sell in large enough volumes to warrant much advertising - its unfortunately a catch 22. When was the last time you saw a commercial for any of the SRT-8 vehicles, or SHO?

I understand the point you are trying to make but the analogy isn't a very good one. The srt8 and SHO have platform cars and are an upsell after piggy backing on the base model's marketing budget. The SS doesn't have a base base model to piggy back off of.

Therefore it's a little more puzzling why something more wasn't set aside for marketing. At least in auto mags where you can do a better job of targeting a specific demographic.

I suspect you may see a bit of marketing in upcoming motoring mags. Mark Reuss tweeted in the last 15 hours that SS is now at dealers. Doesn't mean alot in terms of being able to see one. However if you glue your eyes to the dealers likely to receive an SS sedan they shouldn't be far away.

In a way it's cool it's like this, that you have to make the effort to find out about the SS that you can't just let it come to you. This way it gets the people who would like it most interested in it.
And that is why this forum is the best, because we are all interested in the car and everything about it---the design, the equipment and last but not least -- THE STATUS--- this will be a true niche car. And I'm niching for mine!!!LOL

Either the car is good or it isn't. The company shouldn't have to spend a bunch of money to pump up a good product. They will only have to false advertise and fool people if they are selling a piece of crap.
agreed, but the SS also seems to me a car that was built for enthusiasts. I don't know how true it is but it seems for Chevy to come out with a low volume RWD 4 door Camaro and then not advertise is kind of a thank you to the steady Chevy boys.

I mean look around, half our members own at least one Corvette or Camaro and the other half have had one in their past or are diehard Pontiac guys celebrating the return of G8.

Marketing is for the morons ;) whoops, I work in Marketing.... AHAHAAA

I'm not saying that they need to dump a bunch into marketing. Just a little something to let the masses know that GM is finally offering. Aside from a small sample of enthusiasts such as ourselves, no one has any idea that something of this calibre is even available.

but how many of them would buy it? Its all well and good to have impressions but impressions will never ever equal conversions. Look at the trend in the industry, downsized engine, small cars FWD. I doubt the average house hold is going to care that a new RWD gas guzzling behomouth is available from their local chevy dealer for the low low price of $45K?

Its just wasted funds thats all.. I'd rather that money be reinvested into SS dev for '15, '16...
