I used to work for GM so I wanted a car that had gone through whatever engineering changes were needed early in the production run. For me I wanted silver, a roof and no spare. Agreed; limited options for 2014. 2015 may bring a manual transmission, magnetic ride control, and some new colors. These are unsubstantiated rumors and I will readily admit to surmising the transmission and MRC are coming. I have not seen any of the new colors yet however with my proximity to the GM Proving Grounds in Michigan I'm likely to see them early given the number of engineers running around in them.
So for me a purpose built car with my name on it is important. I hope to order another in 2016 or 2017, whenever GM ends production in Australia (GM has stated 2017 however the instability of the supply base rumors may change that). By 2016 or 17 there should be some new content and colors and I hope to keep the next one for a long time. It would be awesome if the new LT1 engine made it into the later model years but I'm not counting on it given the low production numbers and high cost of validating powertrains.
The dealer I work with knows me and will hover very closely over this car not allowing some yard guy to manhandle it. The 2010 Camaro SS I ordered from these guys was never fully dealer prepped and delivered to me on a flatbed with full shipping pieces still intact from Oshawa Assembly. I did most of the prep, wash, and interior detail and saved every piece of plastic and paper that came with it.
Long story short.... I like to control as much as I can with the delivery of a car and ordering one allows me to do that. Fussy and meticulous owner? You bet but any time I sell a car it generally happens via word of mouth. My nephew has already indicated if I decide to buy a 2016/17 he wants first stab at my silver monster!
