It seems like all the SS's here in North Carolina have build dates of Sept. 2013. I know they are only building 4000 or so of the SS's for export.

Does anyone know if they are going to do another build run of the SS this spring or summer for the U.S.? Come mid-summer - i don't want a 9 month old car that's been through 30 washes at the dealership.

Are they building more now maybe? Wait until the 2015's come out?

I have no idea what the build plan is however order cutoff for the 2014 model was late in December. I ordered mine just a few days ahead of the cutoff and it was built on 02/15/2014. I'm fairly certain 2014 production is either done (most likely) or soon to be done. Many of us here are waiting for the order guide for 2015 to show up (option content, colors, etc.) and for more information to flow to the dealers; Chevrolet Customer Service (they have been helpful here with production and shipment updates) may have more information soon as well. My SIM SS was produced 02/15 and I'm expecting it here in Michigan late April with any luck...

Thanks much. With only two option choices - what are the benfits of ordering one as opposed to buying one off the lot? Cheers!

I used to work for GM so I wanted a car that had gone through whatever engineering changes were needed early in the production run. For me I wanted silver, a roof and no spare. Agreed; limited options for 2014. 2015 may bring a manual transmission, magnetic ride control, and some new colors. These are unsubstantiated rumors and I will readily admit to surmising the transmission and MRC are coming. I have not seen any of the new colors yet however with my proximity to the GM Proving Grounds in Michigan I'm likely to see them early given the number of engineers running around in them.

So for me a purpose built car with my name on it is important. I hope to order another in 2016 or 2017, whenever GM ends production in Australia (GM has stated 2017 however the instability of the supply base rumors may change that). By 2016 or 17 there should be some new content and colors and I hope to keep the next one for a long time. It would be awesome if the new LT1 engine made it into the later model years but I'm not counting on it given the low production numbers and high cost of validating powertrains.

The dealer I work with knows me and will hover very closely over this car not allowing some yard guy to manhandle it. The 2010 Camaro SS I ordered from these guys was never fully dealer prepped and delivered to me on a flatbed with full shipping pieces still intact from Oshawa Assembly. I did most of the prep, wash, and interior detail and saved every piece of plastic and paper that came with it.

Long story short.... I like to control as much as I can with the delivery of a car and ordering one allows me to do that. Fussy and meticulous owner? You bet but any time I sell a car it generally happens via word of mouth. My nephew has already indicated if I decide to buy a 2016/17 he wants first stab at my silver monster!

While one may worry about 30 car washes at the dealership, I would be more worried about a car being built by a workforce that has been told the horrible news of the Holden plant shutting down in a few years. Those people cannot be motivated to do their absolute best.

I'm actually less worried about the workforce. I've worked in and around GM assembly plants in North America and Mexico and rarely found folks that weren't terribly proud of what they do. I can't imagine they are pleased with GM pulling out and likely do not recognize/understand how the business plan was pulled together nor care. That said I'm a believer they don't blame the customer for the closure and look to the global economy, the AUD dollar, and global capacity issues that face the general automotive space. I trust I will be as happy, if not quite a bit better, with my SS as I was with my GTO and 3 G8's!

On another note if you want to wait five months for one go ahead and wait and order a 2015 it will be winter before you see it. Example order June 5th or there about production began Aug. 15th off line the 17th and shipped shortly there after arrived my Dealer Atlanta Ga. Nov. 14th. Been tracking one ordered Sept it is now in Ohio waiting on a box car and this is March 10th and it will need 9 days rail 2 days truck after it leaves Ohio.

I, too, had considered this could become a problem and might need to be factored into a purchase decision.

The question now is when will the VF replacement surface (by rumor, spy photos, etc), and will it have room for an LT1, if the SS is to continue after VF is gone?

We're only talking 2 model years away, 3 in a "best" case scenario....it's not so easy, now, to keep cars from public view before they come to market.

Yep I see. You all make good points. The dealer said they only had the car on the lot for two weeks. Thats September to March 1 door to door.

I think IF we see a VF replacement assembled on US soil it will follow whatever the next Gen Camaro does. The next Gen Camaro will be built at Lansing Grand River Assembly where the CTS and ATS are assembled. Guess what? That means 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines and a smaller chassis but GM is making it clear with the pricing on the ZL1 and Z28 the cost of V8 RWD sedans isn't headed down.... If the business case is there for a next Gen VF figure small engines and big prices for the cars we all seem to want.

I have to think when the Holden finally shuts down GM will have moved production to the states. I just can't believe they'd pull the car AGAIN after only a few years like they did with the G8.

The SS sedan faces almost the exact same fate as the G8. It blew my mind too!:frown:

I'm beginning to feel that the only reason we have the current SS is that management wanted to kill the Holden line and the quickest way to deplete existing body panel inventory was to bring out the SS with Chevy badging.
We go crazy trying to get one, sales take off and management smiles for a job well done.

more a case of if GM wants au tax dollars they needed to sell the SS in north america, explains why GM are doing it but don't want to push sales.

as for using up body parts, no, the only bulk stock items held at holden are imported components, all au suppliers build and supply just in time, no added storage cost, GM do not want to pay to store large items, they only build the parts they plan on using,

if holden had their way all models would be available not just the top tier sport model, but detroit runs the system and holden does what they are told.

If you have the Silver with full sized spare, no sun roof, welcome, you have an exact sister car to mine and CB750's and Bdash's cars. Your car is one of only 30 built this way and one of only 445 built in Silver Ice Metallic. To get your production sequence numbers, send a PM to Chevy Customer Care on this site with your VIN and request a build sequence. They will be able to give you your actual build date and what number your car was in the line of production and what number your car was in your particular build. For example, mine was the 13th of 30 and #2193rd of the 2014 model year built.

Thanks for the information, Headrat. Really appreciate it. I find this SS Forum full of valuable information. Have liked the SS since it came out, finally pulled the trigger and am glad I did. Have found that I enjoy the "sleeper" aspect of this car as many BMW, Mercedes and Lexus vehicles are surprised by the power this car has. Always have that smile whether internal or external when driving the car. Just a bad ass feeling behind the wheel.

smblk415, the full breakdown for the 2014 production run is found at the link in my signature block. As headrat said, you can get your actual build sequence by sending a PM to CCC here on the forum. Congrats!
