I bought my car on Friday without a spare. I was a dummy and didn't have them include one. Now I've decided that I'm not comfortable with just the inflation kit and want one. I know that on the invoice for cars that come with one, it lists it at $500. Is that a donut or full size tire/wheel? My parts department is saying that I have to get a full size wheel/tire and that it's roughly $1200 together. Can anyone who's car came with the spare help me out and tell me what it came with and what I need?

Thanks,
Danielle

Check this thread for parts. I also wanted the spare but we couldn't find a car that had one. Dealer gave me everything exept the tire and TPMS at cost, just over a grand. You can find a cheap used tire pretty easy. If you want to go cheaper, find an aftermarket wheel that will fit over the Brembos. Stock wheel is pricey.

I would have rather done without the spare I got and saved the $500.00 .Run flats I bought are fine and with inflation kit you should be good, and you aren't dragging around and extra 40-50#s or whatever they weigh??

Sounds good to me Ken, lol. My salesman called me back and tried to tell me that the difference in price was because the car that came from the factory with the spare was a donut, not full size. I told him to try again. So, he was supposed to be talking to his manager. We'll see. That was hours ago and I still haven't heard from them. I've bought three cars from them in the last year and, as I'm not a good negotiator, I'm pretty darn sure I over paid on all of them. I don't mind paying something, but that is a huge difference. They can at least try to make me happy. If anyone thinks I'm wrong and should be sh*t out of luck, please, let me know.

Unfortunately, some of our cars will be involved in devastating accidents, rendering them a total loss. Some of those cars will have pristine full sized spares in the trunks even after the accident. Scrapyards will post them on eBay. Be patient, and drive safely.

True but with the internet and today's computer stuff there are few bargains from what today are know as recyclers ... scrapyards went the way of the dinosaur!

'Boneyard' operators know the list prices of what they have and price their inventory accordingly. They know what they have and wheels are a big part of their profit base. A pristine unused spare from the trunk will in my opinion be no real "bargain".

Thanx Mike. I had a senior moment and forgot to include the link in my post. Glad someone was paying attention!

Your salesman is an idiot. Ask him how the donut will fit over the Brembos. He probably doesn't know what they are either.
Since you already made the deal, it might be tough. Talk to tha sales manager and remind him you are a repeat customer. Hendrick in Cary provided me with the parts at cost. And my salesman knew what came with the car (although I did have to educate him on the self parking features:wink:).
