Currently I drive a 2006 Chevy Impala SS as my summer daily driver. At 1st look, the timing looked great to buy the new SS for the summer car is posting over 120k miles. I also drive a Pontiac G8 GXP and track it at Watkins Glen during the summer.

I was all excited last fall and up to the Daytona launch to see what was being offered in the new SS than.......I started seeing that at the end of the day, I was buying another G8!

Now, if the car was offered with a manual and had more HP, I would reconsider. I also just heard from a local car dealer that each dealership will get three cars each and the minimum mark will be $5k over sticker (this sales manager said this number will be more like $7.5k).

So, I just ordered a 2013 Camaro 2SS with the 1LE track performance package for less then what the new SS will sell for.

So I'm out!!

But, posting you don't wanna "buy another G8", then going and doing exactly that, is even worse. A Camaro IS a Pontiac G8!

You shoulda boght a REAL track car or at least a true coupe.
I can't believe you didn't just buy a Vette.

But, good luck with your 3,900lb "sports coupe". LOL

Congrats on the new car. Too bad the SS didn't fit your expectations.

The SS really is just an upgraded G8. Our expectations are a bit too high for GM I guess. Ah well. At least we have another V8 option from GM now.

A mark up of $5 000 - 7 500 is crazy but since it's going to be limited production I guess some people will actually pay that mark up.

Probably best to shop around finding a dealership that doesn't add the stupid mark up

Nice driving.
Imagine how much faster you would have been in a C6 or C5 ZO6.

Since you already have a sedan, why didn't you go with a coupe for the track ???

In all seriousness, wait till next Wednesday for the NYC auto show to see pics and specs for the 2014 Camaro SS before you commit to anything.


I'll be in NYC for a few days with some colleagues to check it out for myself, you can stop by and we can duplicate that picture if you'd like.
But, I recommend you wear a girdle and shave the rest of that head.

6'3" will fit into a C6 fine.
I'm sure you've heard of Nick Yoskin, and he has no problem fitting in his C6s
He's twice your size and he'd break you in half.

Well, some Pontiac dealers tried this with the G8 when it was first introduced in 2008 and supplies were tight. That didn't last too, too long. I picked up a leftover 2008 in October 2008 when sales slowed down. The dealer was begging me to take it and priced it accordingly. Yeah, the first ones will bring all the money, but it'll calm down.
