’m hitting 1,000 mi. on my SS and have been thinking about the earlier posts regarding shipping / alignment issues. Has anybody gotten a second alignment and was there any significant difference in the alignment metrics the second time?
I think the dealership did a good job on the original alignment and their printout of the post-alignment specs looked fine. When I picked-up my SS the roads were clear here in Central Ohio, the original tires were on the car, and the SS was driving great. Since then, there’s been a lot of snow and some ice, the driving hasn’t been great and I replaced the original tires with my winter tires. The SS is still driving great and the alignment seems to be OK but given the driving conditions I can’t really tell for sure.
I don’t know if a second alignment will be covered under the warranty and frankly I don’t really care if I have to do this out-of-pocket if it will make a difference. Any thoughts about a second alignment?

I was thinking about doing this also. I just hit 1700 miles and its been 1000 miles since my alignment. I don't see an issue like I was prior but it would be nice to see the difference from where they set it to where it is now. I might go in next Friday on my day off to have them take another look.

edit: I am sure they will cover it, just say you fell a pull. It is under warrantee until 12000 miles or one year.

Just curious why we are talking about alighnment issues...I've got 1700+ and tire wear seems great...No pulling left or right to speak of at this point...Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones the factory got right...

are they coming off the line with bad alignments now?
no, but some people think it gets messed up being tied down on the boat/train..

edit: I personally wouldn’t cause no shop could ever be as precise as the alignment that’s done on the assembly line, it’s all automated, not some guy sticking his head in the driver side window and propping the steering wheel with a spring bar

Well my alignment was rather far off and was about 1/4 inch to the left to drive in a straight line. There have been some issues with some cars not all.

I just purchased a PBM SS two days ago and noticed that the steering must be canted slightly to the left in order to track a straight line down the road. Have to take the car in tuesday for the detail job so will have them correct it at that time. If they give me any issues about it I will just calmly and politely flip the [email protected] out until someone makes it right. I am not too classy to walk around the dealership and grab potential customers and show them my issue if thats what it takes. lol

Just a heads up they will ask you to drive 500-750 miles due to a GM requirement.

My PBM SS pulls hard to the right. I'm going to contact the service department today to see if they can correct it. It is really difficult to hold on a straight line without the front end wanting to hop to the right. Much more noticeable at speeds greater than 55 MPH.

Yes but the cars are loaded and unloaded again and again I have mine checked at a race shop once a tire starts to wear they will continue to wear in that pattern so the early bird catches the problem just saying.

alignment issues

I have been having allignment problems since day one. Chevy customer care and my dealer are on it. I was told that the car is shipped with "sacrifical bolts" so the alligment cannot be properly done till the dealer gets them in. My sales guy who is really cool finally took over for the service department because I couldn't get straight answers from them. He will call me when they come in and the car will be properly alligned and the wheel will be straight. I will let you know how that turns out when it happens.

As many SS's that have been aligned yours is the first anyone has mentioned Sacrifical bolts so I call BS on your dealer more than likely they don't have specs. They are on here somewhere from customer care I have mine printed off and in glove box with owners manual. I put in a call to my dealer about this today they will get back to me tomorrow so we will see on this bolt thing.
Oh I use to be a line mechanic for City Chevrolet Charlotte N.C.
