Ok. So you can get 315s... do they FIT under the car?

Here's what I would do, find some 18x11's that fit, and run the gForce Rival S in 315/30-18s in the rear, and 275/35 in the front (on 18x10s).

Anyone know of ANY 18x11s in the proper offset?

And I also don't think the SS can be "nationally competitive" vs the likes of the Camaro and Mustang being that it's heavier and bigger. It would be fun locally, that much is certain, but it wouldn't be the "car to have".

What's the reason to run 18's over 19's? Weight?

Less weight definitely helps, but you can get the Rival S in 315.

Trying to fit a 19x11 would probably require making some big time concessions that could probably be outside of the rule set. For that matter, I'm not sure how easy a 18x11 would fit out back either.

Had a good event last weekend, wound up 3rd. IMO the SS is pretty competitive, its not really that much heavier than the fast cars in the group and with something other than the stock tires (I.E. RE71R's) I had a shot at first place for sure. The top 5 drivers were all experienced drivers that have been out many times/years prior:

I'm still deciding if I want to go to STP, because its **** hard to find lighter wheels for FS... Easier to just get whatever wheels and go straight to Street Touring.

Just a heads up, the SS now falls into STP per the Dec 16 Fastrack.

STP also just added some interesting allowances over the normal ST ruleset. STP is actually a pretty decent place for a SS with common mods to play.
Didn't see this when you posted it. Good to know! Looks like the PAX for STP is lower than CAM-C too (.820 vs .823).

Thanks for posting! After moving up here and only doing one autocross per year, I'm so out of touch on the autox rules. I hadn't even heard of the new STP class. I suppose I should start paying attention to those FasTrack emails.

I didn't know about STP outside of this thread, mostly cause nobody here runs in it!

I do have two local guys in GTO's that run Cam-C though.

Cam C allows far too much modification for a brand new SS to be competitive in... Maybe not even for a used one. Gotta do way too much to the car to keep up with the fast cars.

STU is pretty rough with the EVO's, M3's, and such. STP needs more participation at this point but the cars allowed are better competitively than STU or CAM.

For some reason, the SS wasn't listed in FS.... I emailed the SCCA about it, and they are fixing it in the August Fasttrack! :D

Also, I ordered some 18" Forgestars for competing in FS. I've been doing extremely well with the stock wheels/tires, competing with cars running on RE71R's in much larger sizes. I might try to squeeze 275's on the 8.5" front wheels too like some of the national champs do.

Wow top 5 all in the 71s! That would be a blast to run with competition like that. Nice job beating the M3 by .001. I really miss events like that. What region do you run with? I started out in 2000 with the Utah region. While I lived there, I also did events with Las Vegas Region, southern Idaho (I forget their region name - was Pocatello area), and Irvine CA for a ProSolo event. I moved to the KC area summer of 2001 so I did events often with the KC Region and also St. Louis and Springfield.

When I retired from the Air Force, we moved to where my wife is originally from. Now I'm lucky to have one event per year unless I'm willing to drive 3 hours to Bismarck. The days of me driving that far for 3 minutes of seat time are long gone, but one event per year isn't quite enough to get my fix.

That post was longer than I intended but there's my boring story. :D

I'm running with the Sacramento Region, a sub region of the SF region.

Here are the results from an Autox we had at Thunderhill last weekend:

Saturday (1 lap short course)-

Sunday (2-laps of same course in reverse)-

Saturday was a REALLY close competition again! I actually paxed overall really well on Saturday, 13th out of 99 cars.

Sunday was a MUCH more entertaining course, but due to the length and double-lap runs we only got 3 runs. I had a very strong third run but the Mustang on 275 RE-71R's had me beat that day for sure.

Looks like you made the M3 driver mad. He didn't come back. :D
The M3 driver was actually an old friend of mine from Reno. He only came down for that weekend because of that location for the event, much like how the event last weekend got a couple different people to show up because it was a location never done before (my other friend in the other SS).

I'll hopefully be running my first autox in the SS in September. Only mods that matter are wheels/tires (19x9.5, 285/35 square) and a rotofab that UPS dropped off yesterday. Looks like that puts me in STP class, although they may also let me run as a novice (will be my third autox total). I won Novice my first time out, but mainly because my Honda Fit (that I sold on impulse to get the SS) had a pretty healthy PAX.

Really looking forward to it.
