SCCA Autox Classing (FS, STP)

Just a note in case you didn't see it, the '14-'16 SS has been officially classed in FS and STU per the May Fastrack effective immediately.

No more having to rely on the catchall, and is legal to run at National Events if you're so inclined.

-------------

EDIT: Per Oct 2016 Fastrack, the SS is now in STP.

Wait what? I run CAM-C, does that mean I wont be able to run that anymore?
You can still run CAM.

The mods allowed in CAM are so wide open, that the performance of the stock(ish) SS is of little consequence for the class. That's why the SS was able to be classed in CAMC almost immediately.

The allowances in Street and Touring are much lower, which is why it took longer to officially class the SS, but classing in FS and STU didn't surprise anyone. The SS is also in ESP by the catchall, if one should choose to run R-Comps.

Same class as my previous 240 hp E36 M3 (STU). SS is 700 pounds heavier but I'm still pretty sure the SS would be quicker.

I'd have to run the car in CAM-C or STU since I have Eibachs but it looks like STU has a higher PAX - .831 vs .845. Running CAM-C would help significantly for overall standings. A 50 second run would be 41.550 compared to 42.225. It doesn't sound like a lot but at the larger events, that could be 5 or maybe even 10 places.

Anyone run FS with the stock RE050 tires? Technically with the new SCCA treadwear rules the 140 treadwear on these tires push you out to STU or ESP. Will they bust you at the local level usually?

I may hit up a solo event in December. I'm also debating if I want to remove my rotofab intake or not.

Does the rotofab count as a "drop-in" air filter replacement, or does that count as an intake mod that disqualifies the car from FS? I'm guessing it would be qualified as a "pre-tb intake mod", so it would force you into STU yeah?

I found this online in their rules for 2016:

13.10 ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN
A. The engine air filter element may be removed or replaced provided the air
flow path remains as originally designed (i.e., no additional openings). No
other components of the air induction system may be removed, replaced,
or modified.

My personal interpretation is that replacing the stock filter box and elbow with their RotoFab equivalents would violate 13.10 for Street class.

The club I race with put me in ESP because it was not a stock air cleaner and the tires. However, I really do not care, I have raced up and down the east coast in stock cars (to include Daytona 200) so I just want to drive fast and use this car for what it can do and not get a ticket. Beating a better car is what gets me excited not winning another trophy to add to my collection.

The rotofab definitely bumps you to ESP. That's why I'm considering removing it for Solo days.

Just a heads up, the SS now falls into STP per the Dec 16 Fastrack.

STP also just added some interesting allowances over the normal ST ruleset. STP is actually a pretty decent place for a SS with common mods to play.

You wouldn't happen to have a web site I could read for these changes would you?

CAM is ok regionally for the SS, but if you've ever seen a real CAM car, they have a ton of money in them. The SS is too big of a platform to start a nationally competitive build on IMO.
