Looking at a SS to replace my daily driver - and I have a roof rack for bikes on my current car.

Has anyone put a roof rack on a SS? I looked at a SS at an auto show today and it looked like it was equipped to handle a roof rack.

See Crazy Paul's listing here

A 75kg roof bar and bike rack are available as genuine Holden accessories. Rola and Rhino Rack also both make racks.
The Holden offering is a bit of a monstrosity and would be a mongrel to ship halfway across the globe.
What I've done a couple times before for the G8 crowd was just supply the Thule fitting kit to suit the car. This ends up being just a small toaster sized box. Then the bike owner can buy the crossbars and other Thule accessories cheaply & locally himself from a more Universal range which fits a variety of different cars and bikes.

Thanks for the info - does the presence of a sunroof impact the fitting of the roof rack cross bars? I am not a big sunroof guy - but most of the SS cars here or headed our way seem to have a sunroof.

I'll have to look at my bike racks - one is OEM VW for my TDI but I think that they are made by Thule. It would be nice to reuse these racks if I could.

Confirmed Thule part number and kit will fit Holden VF.
I shipped a Thule fitting kit to Omaha,NE on March 17th.
But the Thule system does not use the factory mounting points, does it? It actually clamps to between the doors, correct?

Hmm - you may be correct there by looking at the brochure. Wonder if GM will eventually get the factory rack system over here (which would be the optimum solution, I guess).

Thanks for the info. The mounting kit was in stock in California. I put the rack on today. There are no clearance issues with the sunroof and I just had to try it. it does get noisy with it open and the rack in place above 40 mph. It's very quiet with the sunroof closed. It doesn't take long to remove the rack to go back to the sleeker naked look. I mountain bike some weekends and may remove and reinstall as needed.

I was considering the hitch type but just can't cut the hole and look at the receiver which will never go away like I can make the roof rack disappear. And it gives me the option of borrowing a kayak that I could never carry before.
