Remove the resonator or the mufflers

On my 2013 Camaro SS, I have the full Solo Catback, in which I actually took off the J-pipes to get some volume, which it did and still doesn't drone along with JBA coated shorty headers (only ones legal when we lived in Kimifornia

On my friends Camaro SS, he deleted the rear mufflers and it seems to be what the Camaro guys do...leave the resonator and delete the mufflers. It's louder than mine and honestly sounds good with minimal if any drone.

However, here on the SS, seems to be the thought is to leave the mufflers and remove the resonator. Or to get a Solo Axle back (want the quad tips) and leave the resonators.

Is there reason why the resonator delete is more popular here than the muffler deletes on the Camaro.

The difference for me is the 3 month Old and wife don't ride in the Camaro however the SS she will be driving.

The SS sedan has a lot more limited aftermarket than a Camaro, so there aren't many options. The Solo is the main option for deleting the mufflers, but it's ~$500. Spending $100 on a resonator delete is cheaper and still gives a good sound from what I've heard.

As for the kid, I think it depends on the kid. I'd probably keep it stock for a bit longer though. When they're old enough to tell you "faster daddy, faster!", you know you can go with a louder exhaust. An acceptable alternative is when the kid starts laughing every time you floor it, you know you can go louder. Of course, the wife could be an issue...

The wife is ok with a louder exhaust. Her daily driver now is a 2009 Charger Daytona.

The kid had no problem with my 2004 Ram diesel and none with the new Ram diesel and sleeps usually once he gets in the car.

What I was curious about was why the muffler delete on a Camaro and the resonator delete on the SS.

Probably because most SS owners are 35+ years old and don't want that 'all-out' exhaust volume that come with having no mufflers.

In any case, I would recommend that at the very most (and for now) you only go with the resonator delete. Not loud enough for you or too loud for you baby? Then and only then go with a muffler delete.

That's what'd do, but then......I'm an old guy.

Most of us on here (I assume) use as a family car as well as a toy and just don't want to be to loud. My guess is you have '14 or '15, so my suggestion is delete resonator and 2nd cats if possible. Sound is louder and more of a deeper growl without being over the top. I have a 3 week old and it doesn't bother her.

I'm old as dirt but when I was a kid I always wanted a big block, but those cars were out of my reach. I love that old low rumble lub-dub of a 442, 454 or 440- magnum. The LS3 sounds a lot different and raspy (to my ears) so finding the right tone that I like is hard. When I first started driving the SS I stayed in Tour and then moved into Sport, but now I prefer Track full-time.

Back on point; I flipped a coin on the ARH complete system and I suspect it's going to be a tad louder than I'd prefer. I plan on adding a set of Solo resonators to calm it down; if needed. Yeah, the age thing' plays into it.

That's the mufflers. The OEM mufflers on the LS3 cars all have a raspy, snarly sound to them. It took me several tries to get my exhaust just right.....and aftermarket (Borla) mufflers played a big role in that.

Actually all LS motors have that raspy pitch at full throttle. You can always tell a LS car vs a sbc or bbc just like you can tell the difference between a mod motor and sbf. It's very distinct, I call it the LS rasp. Our stock mufflers are raspy but I do think the 14/15 mufflers sound a tad better than the 16/17 mufflers.

The best I could do was to go with the magnaflow cat back with headers and x pipe with the mid muffler removed. Now my car sounds like a v8 m5 lol.

Will.....when I had the Solo pipes with my current engine/header mods, I had no rasp.....at full or part throttle. Car was load as a mo-fo, for sure.....but not a raspy sound. Same is the case with the Borla mufflers now installed.....not nearly as loud and also not raspy.

The H/C LS3 in my '95 Impala shoots exhaust through Hedman mid-length headers and the Dynomax 2 1/2" system with their Ultra-Flow mufflers. At WOT, the exhaust sounds like one of those lumberjack saws ripping it's way through a 30" tree trunk. Very vicious sound but not exactly raspy; still, nothing like I've heard that I can remember.

Anyway.....these are my observation on my cars......YMMV.
