On my old Impala with remote start I would start the car to warm it up and usually came out to the car before it shut off. I would push the unlock button on the remote, get into the car, put the key in the ignition, turn the key to "on" and drive off. On my new SS I got into the car having tried remote start for the first time and did not know what to do. No key to turn to "on". The engine was running but I could not shift out of Park. I tried pushing the Start button without putting my foot on the brake. The shifter was still locked. I pushed the Start button again. The engine shut off. I restarted the engine and could then drive away. Do we really have to shut off the engine and restart it if the car is already running on remote start?

No. Just put your foot on the brake and press the start button and itll transition into run mode and you can then shift into drive.

Try pushing the start button while foot is on the Brake pedal, no car will allow you to shift out of park without holding brake, same to start. worth a try.

I've had the same experience when using remote start. After starting the car remotely, I'm not able to shift out of park.

When I step on brake and press start button as others have recommended the car shuts off.

Must be missing something? Need to check other posts.

Thanks guys. I did just like you said this morning and it worked just like you said it should. I should have known that this car is smart enough not to engage the starter if the engine is already running. I didn't want to try that in fear of hearing that awful grinding noise!

Electric start has done away with that completely. On the VE (Pontiac G8, Commodore, Lumina) you could turn the key until you're blue in the face and it won't effect the car negatively.

D'oh, just call me Homer.

I suspect I wasn't holding the brake down while pressing start button, as I said earlier.

I tried this morning and it worked fine.

Thankful for all the great info in this forum!
