Rebuilt title opinions

Hi, Midwest SS fan, have had mostly turbo cars, srt4, and current daily is a slightly modified SHO. The SS ticks a lot of boxes, big sedan (I have two small kids) tons of storage and most importantly a stick rwd. The SHO also basically does all the same things but no stick. Two main questions one would you daily this vehicle and two would you buy a rebuilt title vehicle, that seems like the only affordable way to do it currently.

I drive mine daily, but I have a 3 mile commute. You will need to factor in the gas mileage for your commute.

If you buy a rebuilt title, the problem usually comes up at resale time. Many do not want to buy a rebuilt title. You may get into the car cheaper, but may pay for it on the resale.

I would also check with your insurance company to see if they will insure a rebuilt title car.
Thanks, I’m not too worried about resale or gas mileage as I drive mostly highway, but I do drive closer to 20 miles each way and around 13-15k miles a year. Insurance company was onboard with the title. I guess the bigger question is with long term owners here, am I crazy for getting into a vehicle with parts drying up or ?
I tend to keep vehicles for around 3-6 years. I’m not too worried about drivetrain parts bug moreso suspension/cosmetic stuff
I own a 2014 Police Interceptor Utility, with swapped out Explorer interior with meth, intercooler, and maxed out stock turbos. Same platform, traverse 3.5TT, as your SHO. My wife daily drives it and we tow our camper with it. I also have a 14 Caprice PPV with heads, cam, intake, exhaust, and rear end work. Same platform as SS but stripped down and longer wheelbase. I don't drive it much. I work from home and also have a work car I use when I have to travel. The Caprice is more raw. Rough idle, hard acceleration, rips the tires. Hell of a lot of fun. The Explorer is more refined. Its quick off the line being AWD and quiet, smooth, and no fuss. Small turbos with zero lag. I enjoy driving the Caprice more but we end up taking the Explorer more often with the kids. I have zero worries with parts for my Caprice. The G8, Caprice, SS, and Camaro are all similar platforms and share many parts. I have a Camaro rear end and SS intake for example. Long term parts I would worry about is body panels and electronics. Engine and drivetrain are common parts with no issues. But I don't worry about it and enjoy the car.

I would not worry about a rebuilt title myself but then again I buy cheap cars at auction, swap parts I want on it, then focus on performance improvements. I don't care about resale as I keep them for a long time. If resale value is important in say 3 years I would not buy a rebuilt title SS. You have to ask yourself are you looking at it financially?

You are an ideal person to talk to about this 😂. Yeah the wife drives an Explorer ST so really this car is about being able to put kids in it when needed and having the storage that multiple young kids require and enjoying my driving experience. Right now my SHO is basically tune only, but not sure I want to go any further with it. My big thing is I’d love to go back to manual, and yeah not necessarily looking at resale as a financial tool, in fact I’m looking at rebuilt more as option to get a lower mileage and reasonably affordable SS.
Ok you already made up your mind. LOL.

For the Explorer ST run 93, get an intercooler, and tune from Unleased Tuning, ZFG Racing, or 5 Star and flirt with 11s if you have the right DA.

For the SHO sell it, get a manual SS with a rebuilt title, and enjoy the hell out of it. Then when fun funds are available do an intake, exhaust, and tune. Go race the wife and see who wins!

I sold my C5 and got an SS to have space for small children. I work from home now but still do daycare drop off (only about 3 mi both ways). Vette was sitting a ton since I didn't commute and if I was going somewhere on the weekends, kids were likely with us. When I did commute I'd drop the kids off in the SUV then come back to take the Vette into work:ROFLMAO:

Before kids I daily'd the Vette in the summer, and have daily'd the SS for drop off duty and family day trips all last summer, but I've only had it since last spring. My other vehicle is a Tahoe so the SS gets better mileage (but 93 vs. 87) actually.

If you're not not worried about resale or gas mileage, I'd definitely so do it! I am very worried about fender benders or other body damage due to parts availability, and am worried about electronics and non-drivetrain for the same reason, but it's worth it!

Appreciate the feedback, the other question is what does everyone think is a fair price for a rebuilt manual with 40k miles?
Keep reading rebuilt, in NY it is call salvage title, meaning the insurance company didn't believe it was worth fixing due to a value percentage of what car was worth on the market. Say the car was worth 38K full value, at 75% damage 28500 at 60% 22800 would have taken that much damage for insurance to be done with it. My questions would be not worth but the details of why it has a rebuilt/salvage title, not just word of mouth but documentation. Personally if i wanted a salvage car i would only pay 60-75% value of a clean one if the paperwork checked out, say car was in a flood, water level documented to just inside cabin with waterline photos ect and person whom now is trying to sell the car was one that bought at auction and fixed up/repaired trying to make a buck. Was it a salt water flood or regular water salt could eat the crap inside out wires body ect.
I'm sure you get my drift by now, do your due diligence and investigate.

Shoot me a DM when you’re ready to sell that Carpice PPV. I’m looking high and low for a decent one.

I keep cars for a long time so you may be waiting a while. LOL. In all seriousness I picked mine up for 4k on Govdeals when NJ Transit dumped their fleet all at once. Mint ones were going for 7-8k and higher miles ones like mine were going for 4-5k. It was used as a taxi so no roof, trunk, or A pillar holes. Came with 500 pages of maintenance records and inspections. The 11-13 parts cross reference alot with the G8 and 14-17 cross reference with the SS. The dealer in IL buys them from auction and flips them pretty high. My Explorer I got from MIBids and then swapped out an interior from a wrecked XLT. Picked it up for 7k. I would watch state auctions or Govdeals for one. I am not sure what prices are with the used car market craziness right now. People are asking double and triple for similar car as mine right now. Weird place to be in the market. Wonder if we will self correct at some point.

are u loking for one?
I have been itching to go back to stick, but I would need to sell or trade in my SHO to accommodate getting the SS, so price is my big hurdle especially since values seem to be high for these unicorns. That’s the main reason I’ve considered rebuilt options to get into lower mileage ones as I drive around 15-18k a year and this would be my daily.
