When I first got my car I used a couple great brake dust removal products on the wheels. The car has been driven in the rain and washed and I have seen minimal rust.
I'm just sayin.............

Me too. I wash my car regularly and my rear rotors are fine. Very minimal brake dust rusting on the painted surface. I am going to remove them and paint the Hats a nice glossy black. But with regular cleaning they look nice.

I really believe a lot of the initial issue is just rail dust. I advise folks to try a proper product before taking it back to the dealer.

Could you recommend a couple of good products?

Dave, it's a shame you couldn't be on that cruise with your rocket. Know mine is on a train -- gonna have to hit the dealer for the railcar # so i can watch her scale the Rockies! Good luck on yours. Did I see May 23 as the date?

No kidding! Nice yours is on the train already...wish I could say the same. Cape Town Hwy is due into Newark on the 3rd as it stands now. I'm going to try and leverage a few folks to get it processed quickly but I also suspect GM has interest in moving the product to the dealers as we are starting to get late in the 2014 model year. I was surprised when I started checking local dealers; my two closest have a total of 15 cars in stock. My dealer is relatively small and considered a rural spot has 3 in stock. GM may be concerned about incentives before too long and this is a halo car.

My hope is to have the car by mid-May :)

Yeah, I was surprised the car went to the railyard so quickly. Came in on the Genius on 20th and was sent to railyard on 23. Hope the train and truck part go that well. Could have it early in May if that all comes together.

BTW, the online tracker moved as well. Very surprised by that since it had been stuck at Queued so long.

Mine, although shipped and getting closer and closer to Newark, is still showing Queued for Production..... :(

These are what I swapped out the 'its all rusted, don't touch it' rear rotors.

Centric's are super cheap, people track them and they have a quality FNC coating on the hat AND the fins where most of my rust was. Worth the $70! Car looks new again.

I had the rust bleed through on my last G8 GXP both in the vents and painted hub. Pulled the rears, threw them through the blast cabinet, then painted with high temp Rustoleum engine paint in a very shiny silver. They looked like a million bucks! Rather than do the same with the fronts, which were not as bad, I ordered Brembo rotors from Italy through Amazon for $68.26 apiece... worth every penny!

It will change after they scan the barcode when it leaves the ship. Mine went to shipped/enroute sometime between Sunday & Wednesday.

Guess I need to quit thread-jacking here.. Have a good one!

Mine never saw a railcar and one side is a tiny bit rusted and the other side has more ... it was wetter underneath the rotor cover seen by trail of dirt the water washed off during transit.

The fact that they sit so long on ship(s) and the rotor covers keep the moisture from drying are what in my mind is accelerating the rust.

Were are you located in Michigan?
Question directed to me? I'm between Commerce Twp and Milford Twp, right on the border between the two.

I use rail dust as a generic term. Could be metal from a number of sources.
