Someone may want to make this info a sticky for further use.

If you call your dealer and get the railcar # here is some tracking info for rail

CSX is everything east of the Mississippi
Up is everything west of the Mississippi

But they all start out on CSX so once they have it in there system they will follow it all the way.

How do I track my car on a railcar?

First and most important. Never talk to live personnel at the railroad! Only use automated phone system. If it attempts to transfer you to a live person please hang up. The railcar information we are provided by GM is given as a courtesy and if we call live personnel we will lose our data and ability to track CSX.

1. Call the CSX 1-800-235-2352
2. When prompted for location or weight, press "1" on your phone for location.
3. When prompted for the car initials, say ETTX (whatever initials you have) then wait for the next prompt. OR key in 32-81-81-92 (for ETTX)(letter and position on your phone)
4. When prompted for the car number, say 907048 or key in whatever your car number is
5. When prompted for next car say DONE.
6. That's it; enjoy your updated status report.

Union Pacific
1. Call UP at 1 800 877-5123 1 800 877-5123
2. Follow phone prompts for Trace
3. Say the railcar number complete and clearly. Example ETTX123456 all together
4. Listen for your update

These automated systems can be frustrating. Keep in mind they are intended for use by folks that use them daily all day long. Like I said if you are being transferred to a live person please hang up and try again.

Hey Slingshot, Glad you mentioned CSX to the eastern side. The reason being is that the over a mile long train that I saw two days ago was pulling mostly CSX cartrain cars, heading east!!! Hope they make it in all the weather.

Still sitting in Kentucky since 3/11 ... No way it will make it here by 3/14 like customer service was saying ... They would have to load it on a bullet train.

You have forgotten BNSF west of Mississippi, and Norfolk Southern east of the Mississippi. I know for a fact we haul lots of GM's here at BNSF, and I'm sure Nazi Southern does too.

In fact next time I get called to engineer a V train I'll look at the manifest and see what we're hauling.

Hey Doug, I'm curious about the "Newark" tag also. Just doing a little 'CSI' here to see when GM decided to do this split shipment. If they(GM) decided in December, then they are better at predicting the weather and rail car availability than anyone on this earth. You guys would have had your cars by now if they went 'normal' shipping, i.e., from Benicia, then train, then truck. Remember, my car was on this same ship, and it arrived in Benicia five weeks ago!!! Had my car for four weeks already, yesterday!!!

Got a rail question . . .

Anyone have an idea on where the off-load point might be for an SS coming by rail from Benicia, CA to Abilene, TX? I'm guessing Metroplex and then truck to Abilene?

Thanks, Mike! Miss that old Nova quite often, but better things on the way. Getting really excited now that I know it's headed east on land! Appreciate you and Jere for helping everyone out with west coast arrivals.

For us 2015 guys, how long does it take the cars to get from CA to Ohio? via train Any idea?
Your car will take the scenic tour, through the Panama Canal to Newark NJ. After it hits land, start bugging your dealer for a train car number for tracking.

We do not know yet if and when any cars will go through the canal. Last year two shipments did late. By rail it takes 11 to 12 days to get to the east coast then onto trucks to the dealers. That is quicker than through the canal!! I just posted the status of the first load and will watch this ship to see if she heads south towards Panama. It could happen.

So, if my salesman says he doesn't have access to a rail tracking number, what words or phrases can I use to lead him where he needs to go?
Once it's assigned it will show up on the GM workbench site/paperwork. Have them check that.
