Since waking my new SS from hibernation... I've run across a couple of things related to OnStar and the Remote Link smartphone app.

First... I pushed the OnStar "Blue Button" and set up my OnStar account back in December when I took delivery of the car. I then put the SS away in the garage until just last week (December 2 - April 13). When I tried to log-in to my OnStar account online the system rejected my username and password. I called Onstar and discovered that there was no record of my car in the system. They told me to go to the car and push the blue button again to establish a new account. The OnStar advisor and I eventually discovered that my original account was never "confirmed" because they could not re-establish contact with the vehicle after I put it away. She told me they send the "confirming" message a couple of days after the initial set up. An account is not complete until this second contact is established. The only good thing about all this is that my 6-month OnStar trial starts yesterday.

Second... I downloaded the Remote Link app for my Windows Phone (Nokia 822) and connected it to the OnStar system. Most of the Remote Link features work fine but getting to a map on the phone seems "quirky". The image below shows the navigation screen on an iPhone (from the OnStar website) next to the screen I see on my Windows phone. I wondering if there is a way to select a destination from a map on the phone without first searching for something? Also is there a way to send a destination to the car from a computer using the OnStar.com connection?

LOL! thought I was the only one. Same thing happened to me and my wife about 5 times, got the welcome call every time I hit the onstar button, even after I gave them CC info and told them I've been an onstar customer for the last 5 years. I was quite rude to them after the 4th and 5th welcome call and disconnected. Two days later I received a call on my cell phone, apologising for the 'incident's' and notifying me that the issue had been fixed and my free onstar trial will be reset so I don't have to pay for 6 months. All I have to do is hit the blue onstar button the next time I get in the vehicle. Impressive. Left work that day and pushed the blue button, CONGRADULATIONS ON YOUR BRAND NEW SS PERFORMANCE SEDAN! I'M HERE TODAY TO HELP YOU SETUP YOUR ACCOUNT!

Shift Denied.

Happened to me too, I think you have to log into the website to finish the registration.

Good thing is I got a total of 9 months free :)

I did the welcome call, gave them my CC information, bought phone minutes etc., everything in English. Asked my wife to call the car number to test and...

USTED TIENE UNA LLAMADA ENTRANTE.

WTF?! Where did the Spanish come from? Thought it was just some glitch, don't know if I should report it or not. Well, this week I received the Onstar information card and... everything in Spanish. Even the quick start guide.

Granted, I don't have a common North American last name, but that doesn't imply that I am Mexican OR I speak Spanish OR WANT to listen to Spanish in the first place. Seriously, if I call Onstar and somebody throws a 'but don't you speak Spanish?', I'm going nuclear. My native language is Portuguese, dammit!

I looked around on the OnStar website this afternoon and found the answer to my earlier question about sending a destination to the car from a computer. OnStar provides this feature through the MapQuest system. They have a short video describing it here.

It works like this...

You look up an address on the MapQuest website

Then select CAR from SEND menu drop-down at the top right

Select OnStar

Finally click the SEND button at the bottom of the list of possible matches

At this point you're taken to the OnStar website where you name the location. You will have to sign-in if you are not already.

Finally.. the new location will be added to the list of five allowed.

Once you are in the car you push the hands free calling button and say "Virtual Adviser" and follow the voice instructions.

I'll report back how it works as soon as I get my car back from the detail shop... where it is about to be Opti-Coated...

All..I had the same issue with ON-Star as I too set up my account in Nov 2013 once purchased..In Jan 2014 I received a notice stating my account was being refunded as it wasn't set up correctly on Day One and i would be getting a refund for the telephone min pak purchased for $9.99 for 300 min...(I did get the refund)..

I then called On-Star again asking what was going on they said I had no account and it had been closed..So I asked why I received the info/card from On-Star in the mail in Dec 2013 and said it was a glitch?? They still had my C/C, info, street, name, purchase date and everything STILL on file so when they said it wasn't set up correctly I **** near CANCELLED THE ENTIRE account due to the BS..(So On-Star gave me 12 mo free)..really find this fishy guys & gals..

I still have yet to get the car phone min promissed so something going on!)...:shithappens:

When you make your first call to Onstar to set up your info after taking delivery specifically ask for (sometimes it does not come thru 'automatically' like it should) a diagnostic on demand email. This eliminates this issue and you should receive it within 24 hours.

If you put her in transport mode during hibernation it turns off onstar which may be the reason no handshake was achieved ....

Onstar is glitchy especially in setting up a new vehicle. I've had trouble with all 3 GMT900 Yukons and the Enclave. The SS was the only one that went smooth the first time not requiring multiple frustrating calls to them.

As promised I'm here to report back on how the OnStar eNav system worked in the SS.

It did not work at all!

I press the hands free calling button, say "Virtual Advisor", and the system reports that it does not understand the command. I'm thinking maybe the MyLink system needs an update?

Wow! And I thought I had it bad!!! They screwed my account up so badly, they cancelled my account that I've had active in my 2005 Avalanche since 2005, my wife's Traverse, AND my SS. I had to "Push the Blue OnStar Button" on EACH car, setup the accounts all over again, and while setting the Avalanche up, got disconnected 3 separate times, which of course starts the WHOLE process over with a NEW advisor each time!!! They even changed the phone number in my Avalanche without telling me!!! It's got me wondering if it's even worth it!!! But... I DO like the Remote Link app!

Same thing happened with me, I tried logging in to my SS On Star account and it didn't exist, called, they said I wasn't in the system, I told them I set it up at the dealer, and even had logged into the mobile app a couple times to include locking and locking doors remotely. They just set me up again, so I get a new 6 month clock starting now. Weird how some of us just dropped off.

Oops... It turns out I was not pushing the right button.

It turns out the correct button is on the mirror next to the blue OnStar button. The virtual advisor shows up both on the screen and by voice and the system works fine. I played around switching destinations and everything works great. This is a nice feature!

I just searched and came up with this thread. I thought I would post and float it up to the top, since I did not know about the RemoteLink app, and maybe others are in the same boat.

My OnStar setup on the SS went without a hitch on the day of purchase (5/10/14). I didn't purchase any phone minutes. I received the ID card yesterday.

I stumbled upon the RemoteLink app today while looking at the Chevy web site. Looked good, so I downloaded it to my iPhone 5. Since the car is at home, and I'm at work, I can't report on the functionality of the app, but plan on giving it a try soon.

I hope this might help out anyone who doesn't know about the app and might like to give it a try.

Hank, the app will connect to your vehicle anywhere anytime. Near the top of the screen once you are logged in there is an info bar that tells the last time you accessed the car (updated the info). It has the little circular arrow to initiate access & update. Give it a try - I think you'll like it! :)

I totally forgot about OnStar until I saw this thread. Got it all to work (with a little confusion about my old account for the GXP getting in the way) and all is working.
Since the remote start doesn't honk the horn like the key fob, I can't wait to start it up while it's in the shop and freak out the techs!

Did you folks get 6 or 12 months free with purchase?

6 months is the norm - full service though. I'll drop back to Safe & Sound in November.
SiriusXM is a different critter though. Went round and round with them about the 1 year trial. They said 3 months and nothing they could do. Then an email came that showed both the 3 and the 12 month trials. Checked my account online and sure enough - 15 months on Chevy's coin.

Edit -- should have mentioned that Chevy Customer Care stepped in and helped. They do good work. (Thanks, Laura M.)
