I have been doing some reading on this forum along with some corvette/camaro forums about oil filters. I've seen some folks on here mentioned using the delco UPF48R mainly because they had extras from their corvettes, and some just use the PF48 like the dealer would use. I read that the internal filtering components of these 2 are the same, and that the main difference was the higher burst pressure of the UPF which was made for the higher performance/oil pressure GM V8s.

Does anyone have any experience with the Napa Gold 7060 filters? I know they are made by wix, so I know that it is a quality filter. What are your thoughts about mobil 1 filters? Not even going to ask about fram. I am shying away from the delco filter, mainly because I've see multiple threads talking about the way the delo filter threads are straight cut versus rolled cut and possible shavings being left over. Im sure its not the case in all of the delco filters but you never know. what are your thoughts? Anyone have any factual based feedback versus the word of mouth that this one or that is better or is crap, etc etc?

Oil Filters

Just for the ease of removing and installation I like the K&N Oil Filters. They have a built in 1" nut on the bottom that lets you use a socket to install or remove.

The other day when changing my oil and filter I had a very difficult time removing the filter. Seems like the factory over torqued the filter and with the limited space for a oil filter strap wrench to work I was unable to remove the filter in the conventional way. I had to drill a hole in the side of the filter and through the filter material in order to insert a large screw drive to use as a lever for removing the filter. This same thing happened to me with a 2006 Z51 Corvette that I owned.

I used the K&N filters on my 2007 Z06 for many years and had no problem.

I have used UPF48R, PF48. The only difference between the filters, the UPF48R has a thicker wall thickness for higher oil pressures in the ZR-1 when the ZR-1 came out in 2009. I also use Mobil 1 filter #113. This filter fits the LS3 motor as well as the LS7... I use nothing but Mobil 1-113 on my Z06...
Same here; UPF48R on my G8's, Denali, and Camaro SS.... check with Rock Auto. Purchased a case at one point pretty cheap.

Anyone run a longer filter on their SS? Looking at the Purolator PL22500 as the longer version of the PL12222.

I do this in my Silverado and the Wife's Enclave but, I am not doing that in this car. The filter would be below the pan and that is already pretty low. I read post about LT headers rubbing speed bumps  I'd rather keep the oil in the car than to add a little extra media to the filter.

Anyone that follows road racing might know that MotoAmerica is mandating OEM filters on Yamaha R1 superbikes (half the grid probably). Kyle Wyman's K&N oil filter burst, oiled the track, and then caught fire. Word in the paddock is the filter housing separated and it's not the first instance of it. Apparently K&N switched to a different supplier (in China) and QC is unreliable. OEM or Wix is what I choose, on everything.

I use WIX on all of my cars and even on my friend's and family's cars.
It was recommended by my mechanic who has been working on GM cars for 30 years and I have known for about 10 years and fully trust.

A detailed tear down of many of the filters we're all considering for this car... Be sure to read the subsequent pages, the user jft69z who cut them open got ahold of a few more over time and took them apart as well.

PF48 vs UPF48R - Page 2 - Corvette Forum

Based on this, I'd have no qualms about using the standard PF48 on the LS3. Plus you know beyond any shadow of a doubt that it won't adversely affect your warranty. I cannot find any unshakeable evidence that the current UPF48R actually uses a different filter media, so basically it's just stronger for the higher pressures in the dry sump engines.

That said, I would personally be comfortable running the Napa Platinum (fully synthetic media), PF48, or UPF48R. Napa Gold would work in a pinch, and a couple others I'd be okay with likewise, but those first three will be my preferred filters.

Well, hopefully I never have to make an engine internals claim that in any way relates to the oil filter. The original PF48 would be fine. Based on the tear downs I've seen of the PF48E, I don't trust it, significantly weaker internal construction. Chevy may be willing to have the occasional engine blow up and just warranty it, I'd rather not go through the hassle.

Secondly, they need to be really careful denying warranty claims for using an aftermarket substitute. My understanding is that such proprietary shenanigans are forbidden under the Magnuson-Moss warranty act. They cannot legally tell you "you have to use our filter and only our filter to keep your warranty."
