I've paid attention to it on all 3 of my Yukons. My problem? is I get to the year before the % drops below 35%. About 5K miles. I've read a lot of the technical stuff regarding the algorithm and discussed it with a few 'people in the know'. I have noticed that in cold weather it clicks off at 3-4K oil change rate and in the heat its about 8-9K for my kind of driving. A straight highway run with no stopping will be over 100 miles = 1%. Bear in mind I always get up to full operating temp before I turn it off ... if you don't it will be at 100% = 3k mile change interval (minimum) guaranteed. The max is either 12 or 15K miles I'm getting old and lazy and forget the file name I saved that tech stuff under! Remember it uses ALL the sensors... engine temp (oil and coolant), trans temp, ambient air temp, throttle position, engine RPM's, vehicle speed etc to work the algorithm. I know it is set up a bit on the conservative side and has been recalibrated for the degradation of DEXOS1 oil.
I would/will trust it and change oil when it gets to the 20-25% range. (edit) or 1 year whichever comes first.
