Anyone changing oil between 500 and 1000 miles I always do this Mobil 1 5w30 dexso approved. Will do alignment on my nickel after 500 miles.
I use a very experienced tech for my alignment. The last one a dealer I couldn't hold my old Camaro in road went straight to this tech everything was out even paid to have wheel straighten and it was still out.
That dealer is out of business and the old alignment tech went to my current dealer.
Yes I know oil changes are free but not with Mobil 1 so I will take my own oil and filter.

Not a fan of getting rid of the oil. I do have free oil changes and services for 3 years, maybe I will do it. Alignment in 100miles for me from dealer, don't feel that I need to pay for alignment on a new car. Do you have the 5-10% offset like me and ChevySS do?

Metal wears ie high spots on bearings and such so will change oil.
Free alignment is only as good as the tech I have no faith in dealer alignment shops. I do have my vett done at the dealer because the corvette tech is one of the best I've seen he does the alignments on vetts he is a personal friend of many years. My 2 old Camaros that I Bought my girls new use mobil 1 change out 3000 to 4000 miles and have 239000 miles on one 229000 miles on the other one leaks oil. Neither use oil quart in 4000 miles is not a use issue.

Yeah I hear you about the oil, just not sure it makes that big of a difference.

I was business friends with the chemist who formulated the first version of Mobil 1 and because of the high anti wear properties it was recommended that you allow some break in miles before making the change unless it was a factory fill. Mobil claims it's a myth now but I got it from the horses mouth.

Definitely changing mine at 1k .... the reasoning is the filter should be pretty loaded up by then. I'm going to use Dexos 1 because I drive low miles but make sure I get to full operating temperature with my cars each time I use them and the one year is only like 50% by the algorithm.

Have Blackstone do an oil analysis after each change. That should help you figure out how long to go.

I remember Left Lane News bought a G8GT and waited until the car's computer told them it was time to change the oil. Approx 12,000 miles later they changed the oil and had it examined. The verdict - the perfect time to change the oil.
Much finer manufacturing tolerances in modern cars suggest early oil changes are not really necessary, along with less demanding run in periods.
That said, an early change does give peace of mind.

This is all I have seen in theses LS3's. Tolerances are very strict so cars have less shavings.

I've been reading a lot of the same type of attitudes towards oil changing. And to think back in the old days we used to change the oil filter every other oil change! :eek:hmy:

I have the dealer do all my oil changes and stuff, be cause I,m getting too old and fat to wrench under a car. I also like the idea of having a paper trail of the work that's been done. For me I get the first change done at 1k miles, again at 5k and every 5k after that with Mobile 1. I drive with a heavy foot and find it hard to drive like a normal person, therefore the every 5k changes.

I hear you I buy my own oil and filter and pay about 15 bucks for oil change. I don't have to make trip to recycle oil and that's worth the money and I watch to be sure no monkey business. Oh and I'm on the same oil change schedule.

I've been pretty picky about new motor break in's and especially race motor break in's, but, from what I understand this legendary LS3 is pretty much broken in from the factory, and like PRLX1967 stated, Tolerances are very strict so cars have less shavings. I am doing 500 miles, good oil change... LET IT EAT!!!

448 miles to go. =D

I have a good supply of UPF48R which is the ZR1 Gold filter. Used them in my G8's and SS Camaro. Will do my own oil change at likely 600 miles .... That is once my car is built, delivered, and properly broken in.

I'm reading all these oil change low mile threads and wonder why the need to change the break-in oil...I've got 2300+ miles and the oil looking good...These new LS3 engines have very strict tolerances and already broken in from the factory so why the need to change oil so soon...Even the dealer said to change oil when computer states to change...Drive it...

When we purchased our 2011 Caprice PPV (6.0 - L77) a little over a year ago, it had been sitting at the dealer for over a year--built in June, delivered in Sept 2011, best I can tell. I test drove the car in Nov 2012 @ 23 miles, they let me take it home (had it for most of 3 days) to "sell" the wife on the idea of trading for the Caprice, and the car had about 250 miles on it when we actually closed the deal. A condition of sale was that I wanted a fresh oil change--can't verify that it actually was done, but salesman said it was.

My only concern was that the car had been sitting all that time, and it just seemed like a safe precaution to take, under the circumstances.

Perhaps it was unnecessary--so, was I wrong to do this?

Oil seems to last for a long time in the LS3 engines; that said it's more of peace of mind I think...
