According to the below, GM is offering the 6spd manual as the base transmission for the V8 with the automatic being offered as $2,200 option.
I don't want an automatic and I don't want to be FORCED to waste TWO THOUSAND dollars on an option I don't want.

So, what is the difference between the 3 models ???
- SS
- SS V
- SS V Redline

SV6 is the same as a G8 base
SS is the same as a G8 base was with a V8 instead of a V6
SSV is the same as a G8 GT
SSV Redline has larger rims, brembo brakes & and some other extras
All G8's had extra USA only options.

Thought you guys got the 6.2 LS3 too? How much power does the 6.0 push out?

LS3 is a HSV only option. I think they mentioned 2 different outputs for the 6 litre 260 kw and 270 kilowatts ones auto and the other is manual output ( I can never remember which one has the higher, I think its the auto ). or around 360 Horsepower. With an exhaust and Tune she's good for more.
So basically the SS-V Redline is essentially the model you guys will get with the LS3 and paddle shifters, different front seats and probably some other things except for the Manual ( C'mon GM get your act together and offer 6 speeds of AWESOME ). The Redline for the first time offers a staggered wheel fitment so I am guessing the same wheels as the Chev SS.

Thanks for clearing that up, the list Chevypwr posted kinda made me go crazy LOL, helps to know the differences and which of them relates to what we are getting. Couple other articles on here suggest that Chevy SS production will continue in the States once production ceases in Australia, so with Americans in full control of it, and SS production going on longer than the VF commodore a manual should happen.

It all depends on what happens with the SS program as to what happens with production. The things we already know is that the PPV will continue being built at Elizabeth past 2016 for as long as the General want to offer it for police work. I will try to find the article but now they are saying it will be possible to build the Holden sport variants including the Chevy SS post VF alongside the next generation Cruze which is confirmed and another global platform which we now know will carry the Commodore name plate. t
The media here are going nuts on that saying the next Commie will be a bum dragging 4 pot based on the Malibu even though Malibu goes on sale 2 weeks after the VF on June 14.
All I know is FWD large family sedans don't sell well here in Australia the Commodore still outsells them except for the last 2 months as people are waiting for new VF.
The new base 3 litrew V6 is said to use 8.3 litres per 100 km whereas the Malibu is said to be 8 litres so I would always pick the roomier car. So the base is far better on fuel than a Ford Mondeo/Fusion at 9.5 litres.

Heres the article I mentioned. Holden SS will live beyond Commodore article at link Holden SS will live beyond Commodore | carsguide.com.au
buddy sort of had a point...

  • Boy some people are getting carried away. Nationalism and pride in our country is one thing, but actually selling cars profitably is another. Mark Ruess likes the Commodore - that's great. But its not his decision. In GM, committee decide, and can override individuals, including very senior ones. And he has said nothing more than "It is an interesting idea. It might be possible to do." But there are enormous numbers of what ifs, particularly the one about "if it sells well". It has even become available there yet, not sold one car yet, and people are going nuts about keeping it going after 2016? Just silly. It could be a fizzer. It may go dusty in the showroom, like happened last time around. It may get great reviews, but Yanks may baulk at paying over the odds (in their pricing) for a Chevy that is a bit boofy but fast and good handling - the latter is not such a priority for many Chevy owners anyway. Look at the junk they buy. And no-one is going to be torn away from their 5 Series, Merc or Audi for it. So take Bex, have a lie down, and wait for a few years until the sales have settled, then start thinking about the future.

we should wait a bit after sales have settled, then start thinking about the future but already it's a 50/50 chance. Instead of waiting "a few years" I think after 2015.5 we should start thinking about the future of this vehicle, as at that date we should already see upgrades being done for SS's that go on-sale in 2015 and be informed about the direction it's heading into.

Assuming the VF /Chev SS continue past this 2016 cut off it would need the Gen V to pull off the gig plus a facelift again ( which before GFC used to happen every 3 years or so ) to bring it into line with Impala of that time. Just my thoughts on extending the cars life we will know in 3 years time I guess.

Sure sounds possible, only so many ways the SS or an SS-like vehicle can turn out come the 2016 cut off date.

GM/Chevy hasn't has much to say about the SS or it's future aside from what has been collected in this thread and eventually they'll be due for that. I think along with a new or continued SS after 2016 there might be a small chance of an SS-Hybrid.
